Price range: $$$ ($16-$25)

This contemporary Mexican spot from the folks behind Logan Square's Fonda del Mar is an intentional departure from their bright, folk art-decorated sister spot. White walls and table cloths, natural wood floors, clean lines and replicas of pre-Hispanic artwork create a calmer, minimalist atmosphere. The menu's a bit different too, offering new options such as roasted rack of lamb in mole negro alongside favorites from Fonda del Mar's seafood-heavy menu, including the popular pork chop in mole verde and arroz a la tumbada (Mexican white rice with an assortment of shellfish in a roasted tomato-habanero sauce). FDM serves weekend brunch, and the lounge is open late (until 2 p.m.) Friday and Saturday.
