HORRIBLE SERVICE
By blairb from Lincoln Park, July 25, 2009

I have never been treated as badly as I have at this restaurant. The waitress forcefully pushed my friend's chair in, being very rude in the process. Then after I left the restaurant, they followed me outside accusing me of not signing my credit card slip even though they were handing me a receipt that said "Duplicate" to sign. The manager had to step in since the bouncer was being so rude to our party. I will never go back again!

I've eaten here three times . I got carne asada the first time, and have been recommending it ever since. Lots of flavor. I found the service and atmosphere to be good too.

AVOID THIS PLACE!!!!

I believe that the staff can make or break your visit to any restaurant in this city. And in our case, they RUINED it. I will never go back to that restaurant ever again. When we asked to be seated outside in the beer garden for four people, we were crammed into a two-top and told that since it was their "dinner hour" we couldn't change seats, even though there were 10 other open tables in the area. After I pointed that out, the hostess copped an attitude with us and started talking about us to the entire staff. We immediately left and went down the road to Cesars. Much better food, better prices and quality food. If you want a horrible experience, then go to El Jardin. You won't get what you pay for! Enjoy!

Avoid this Place

I love mexican food but avoid this place. They have horrible service and the food is not that good. The food was cold and the server over charged us for drinks. They charged the margargaritas as premium instead of house drinks. The waitress argued with us and refused to correct the bill. I'll never go back.

best mexican food in chicago
By cubby79 from wrigleyville, November 9, 2007

el jardin is the best mexican food in chicago by far. we go there pretty often and love how friendly everyone is. service has always been great and we don't have to wait long at all for the food to come out. the portions are huge, so we normally share an entree. margaritas are very strong and worth the price. it's a great place to eat and hang out.

El Jardin's food is quite...
By Brian from Chicago, IL, August 27, 2007

El Jardin's food is quite yummy, albeit overpriced. Mix in a couple of their margarita's and you'll be feeling no pain. One interesting experience I had to share - Not long ago, five of dined after a Cubs game. The waitress took it upon herself to charge us 18% gratuity (even though there were five, not six, of us). No problem..we were in the midst of a good time, and we're all 15%+ tippers anyway. However, we were all quite awestruck as we walked down Clark Street and heard our waitress calling for our attention. Apparently, we had short changed her 72 cents on the included gratuity. Yikes!

This is the worst place...
By RR from Chicago, IL, July 9, 2007

This is the worst place I have been too. We went there right before the Police concert. It took a long time to get our drinks and food. Two groups came after us and received their food and drinks before us. We told the waitress about the drinks and then got them right away. Our food took a little longer. The worst part was when we ordered another drink she forgot about us again. We tried to stop her to let her know, and she asked how everything is, but before we can answer, she left! The food was mediocre as well as the chips and salsa. The salsa was mild and they did not have a hot sauce. Can you believe a Mexican place not having a hot sauce? The only redeeming aspect was the margaritas which were very good and potent. This was the worst service I had ever had.
