I used to go this place frequently and almost every time I had problems with it. First of all, I like the patio at the back it is really nice to sit outside in the summer however the food and the service are only mediocre, I am sure one can find a much better Mexican restaurant in a place as diverse as Chicago. About a month or so ago, they jacked up the prices, so now it is not a good value either. All the food is really greasy and heavy, and if you go there just to have a couple of drinks and hang out with your friends, the waiters just come up to your table every second, trying to shove food down your throat. In short, it can be a good place to just go check it out and have something light like a vegetarian burrito or something, but beyond that poor service, high prices and unhealthy food

I frequently visited EL Cid for its great patio during the summer months. Now I have a place to hang out during the winter months. They recently remodeled the downstairs which has french doors that allows the cool fresh air inside. The upstairs has a warm atmosphere with friendly staff. El Cid's food is consistent, they have reasonable prices, and they have the best house margaritas in the city of Chicago. You can't beat the price of $4.75 for their house maragaritas.

This is a perfect place to go with friends, a boyfriend or family. The food is great, the outdoor patio, sidewalk cafe and upstairs romantic lounge are fantastic places to get away and drink a margarita. I recommend to everyone!

It's tasty El Cid food with a totally different feel. I love the lounge-y area upstairs. It's super comfy, and the margarita's are excellent as always. What a great place.

You can't go wrong with this cute restaurant located on Kedzie blvd. in between Milwaukee Ave and Diversey. The food and margaritas are fantastic, but it's the unique atmosphere that makes it special. Whether you are in the mood for sidewalk seating, casual authentic dining, a romantic evening upstairs or an amazing evening on the back outdoor patio-- El Cid 2 has it all! The staff is friendly and the prices are fair. I only live a block away, but I would travel the distance for this gem!

We can't get enough of this place. During the summer is the best place to come and chill with the whole family in the beautiful patio while sipping on awesome Margaritas and eating good mexican food.
The staff is super friendly and very caring. I love the fact that they make you feel like regulars from the moment you step in.
The mole is super good and we love the new upstairs addition, for those nights when mom and dad can have a more quiet night out!
We bring in the all our friends and every one has loved it, laid back and not a place for snobs.

We recently ate at the new El Cid 2 second floor. The decor is lovely but the food is the same food from downstairs at a higher price. I had eaten on the patio many times and the food had been so so. There are some other great restaurants with Authentic Mexican Cuisine in Chicago, much better than El Cid 2. Recommend another restaurant with real good Mexican Food, There are so many to choose from in Chicago.
Sorry, last visit, not consistent and its rather insulting and bad business to serve the same food from a Taqueria and try to dress it up as something it is not.

Maybe I caught El Cid on an off day?!?! The food was generally just okay, nothing special. The guacamole - which was $6.95! - was incredibly bland; it didn't even taste like avocado, let alone have any hint of garlic or other flavor. The patio in the back was very nice and the service was friendly and great, but I can't see myself returning when there's so many better Mexican places around.
