I went here with a large group (16+ people) for my birthday in January and was utterly impressed. It is not a large place, and it was quite busy on the Friday night, but the waitstaff was more than attentive and pleasant to our loud, hungry group. The food was so delicious, I couldn't believe I had waited this long to try Dorado. The duck nachos were my favorite, and my husband had the most delicious steak with dried chile sauce---it was charred on the outside, cooked perfectly in the center. My crab-stuffed shrimp were equally delicious, although not as "jumbo" as the menu promised. The crab-crusted salmon was another great main, as were the chile rellanos stuffed with seafood. BYOB corkage fee was really cheap, and made the entire evening more affordable for everyone in the group. It is not the friendliest menu for vegetarians, which is pretty much my only complaint about the evening. I can't wait to eat here again!

The food at Dorado was delicious. We started with the guacamole and shared a bowl of the creamy corn soup with crab in it. Very flavorful. I had the special, a white striped bass with citrus beurre blanc. The fish was seared perfectly. MY dining partner had the chile rellenos de mariscos, which was also full of flavor. Very busy in a good way. The prices are relatively high, but the BYOB made it more affordable.

Total disappointment. Food was very very bland. Steak was badly overcooked. Basically ignored us for 15 minutes and it wasn't busy. To top that off..absurdly overpriced. Absolutely not worth it considering the multitude of other choices.

I just came back from Dorado restaurant in Bowmanville. It is not the first time I have been there, but it is definitely the last. It has been a while since my last visit, when the smell of seafood drove me out. We decided to go back to night (on our way to another spot) because it was rather empty. When I ordered I ordered my meal, I said that I was a vegetarian and might I have my Chile Rellanos with mushrooms. Well imagine my surprise when my order came with shrimp. When I refused it, saying once again that I was a vegetarian, my order was replaced with just vegetables and "shrimp sauce, if I wanted it".
Long story short, I paid $20 for 1/2 order of vegetables (I couldn't eat their rendition of the recipe), and a cup of tea. I could have argued to have my meal comped, but I decided this was better revenge. I now remember why it has been so long since the last time I was there. If you want "Gourmet Mexican" might I recommend Que Rico on Southport and Diversey.

Living in Chicago, I generally have a rule of not going to the same restaurant more than once or twice. Even if I love it, there is always something new to try, right? Well, this restaurant is a definite exception. Yes, it does happen to be located about 3 blocks from where we live, however, we have just returned from probably our 10th visit there and once again are thanking our lucky stars that this place is in our neighborhood. First of all, it's BYOB - who doesn't love that? Second, all I have to say is...Dorado Nachos. These are the famed duck nachos that always have to be our choice of appetizer, no matter how many others we may want to try. Third, every entree we have ever had on the menu is amazing. Yes, it's Mexican, although I have never even tried anything resembling a burrito for an entree. Instead go for for the pork tenderloin or the tilapia, or the steak special. Whatever sauce happens to be accompanying your meal will be absolutely delicious. That goes for the desserts too - we had the plantains tonight and the remaining amaretto sauce combined with vanilla ice cream left me wanting to lick the plate clean. And did I mention the sweet, wonderful people who work there? It's true, this place is less than glamorous from the outside. And the entrees are a little pricey. No, it's not good for groups of larger than 6 or 8, tops. But it is 100% worth a try, or more, for a regular weeknight dinner or a special occasion.

I went back for a second visit and had the tilapia, it was great. My boyfriend had the salmon special, definitely worth a trip back. For desert, we had the bread pudding and it was one of the best I have ever had . It is a little pricey, but the BYOB makes up for it.

My husband and I went to Dorado last night; we shared a delicious spinach salad; I had the seafood chile rellenos, a house specialty served with their green rice and green beans, and my husband ordered the trout, another house specialty served with couscous in a coconut cream sauce and grilled asparagus. My meal was delicious; my husbands was just okay, the fish being somewhat overcooked and bland, although the coconut sauce was very good. For dessert, we shared the chocolate chimichanga, which was excellent! Overall, thought the meals were overpriced, but the byob helps! Service was very friendly and accomodating.

The food here is unbelievable, we had a group of 5 and everyone had delicious meals. Unfortunately, we waited much longer than expected for our seats. This would normally not be a big deal. However, with two babies in our group, we called ahead to make sure we could be seated right away, and were told to be there at 8:15. We actually were not seated until 9:15. The staff is very friendly and sweet, but could have done much better with the seating situation. We were a little miserable and none of us were planning on going back, but the food is sooo goood!

Luis and his crew get my vote for Top Chef Chicago. The food rendered our table speechless - not a member at the table could describe their delicious experience in words - only hums of delight. The staff was genuine, sweet and accommodating. Reservations are recommended. I have eaten at dozens of Mexican places and even worked at a few - this is by far the best Mexican I have had.

The food is terrific (you've gotta try the duck nachos), the service is super-friendly (they recognized us the 2nd time we came in) and it's BYOB! My wife and I love this place and all of our friends that have been there have enjoyed it as well.
