Checked the recommendations here on Metromix before departing, so we thought we might have wandered into the wrong restaurant. But no, we were indeed at Chimbombo. The floor was dirty, the walls were dirty, the table was dirty, the menu was dirty, and even the waitress was dirty. Saturday night in the summer and we were the only souls there. Any other questions? Maybe this place was good once and they sold it, or maybe the chef died and nobody else and the family could replace them. Or maybe this place won't even be open by the time I post this.

Chimbombo is and is not an average mexican joint. They have the expected fare of carne asada (with fries no less), queso fundido, quesadillas, tortas, etc. But they also have huaraches, cochinitia pibil and amazing salsas. They have huitloche on their menu, but has never been on hand when I've ordered it. Their breakfast food is also delicious.
Service is beyond friendly though there is a language barrier, they have a festive dining room and a full bar.

I really like this place, it is not expensive and the food is really good. They made their own tortillas, sopes, gorditas. I really like their sopa azteca. Lots of authentic mexican food options!
