Cemitas Pueble

This place is so authentic and ingredients are brought in regularly directly from Mexico. The bread is made especially for the restaurant and is to die for. The cemitas are loaded with the meat of your choice and of course the secret combo of avocado, chipotle and the freshest shredded Oaxaca cheese. The milanesa (breaded pork) was crispy on the outside and juicy and tender on the inside. The carne enchilada (marinated pork) was tender and juicy. I also recommend the Tacos Arabes. A soft and warm "pita/tortilla" generously filled with chopped, tender spit roasted pork and secret sauce. The chalupas were a little soggy but the sauce on top was to die for. The horchata (drink) was a little too sweet for me, but they carry the Mexican Coca Cola which tastes way better than regular Coke. If you care for dessert, their flan is reliably good. The service is quick and friendly and they want you to tell your friends about it. And you should! If I went back, it would be for the cemitas again and the tacos arabes.

Fantastic - authentic Mexican food

I recently visited Puebla, MX, so I had to try this place out. The food was absolutely fantastic! We were greated by the owner as soon as we walked in. He explained the menu and gave us recommendations. We had chalupas as an appetizer - homemade tortillas and amazing mild & hot sauce. My boyfriend had the taco arabes and cemita carne asada (steak). I had the cemita milanesa (pork). Muy delicioso!! The ingredients are all fresh and all food is homemade (except for the sandwich rolls, which are made in a bakery specially for Cemtias Puebla). This place will become a regular for us.

Great litle Mexican Restuarant
By Florida from Arlington Hts, December 22, 2008

The food here is about as honest as it gets. The food is simple: Cemita/Torta sandwhiches, tacos, and chalupas. However, what is offered is fresh, well-prepared and quite flavorful.
Don't kid yourself on the "ambiance" as there really isn't any. The place comes off as a small and a little worn, but that doesn't affect the quality of menu offerings.
Service is dumbfoundingly friendly and attentive, which is impressive for this type of restaurant.

This place sucks
By Guillermo from Oriole Park, November 13, 2008

I heard it was on Foodnetwork and Guy Fieri was crazy about it. I went in, the owner was nice and explained the menu. He recommended the tacos arabes, cemitas, and chalupas. My family and I tried every thing and it sucked. The chalupas are ok but, the salsas on them lack taste. The tacos arabes are basically barbequed pork on a flour tortilla. I'm sorry but, I like my barbeque on bread and I wouldn't go out of my way for this barbequed pork. As for the cemitas that Guy was crazy about, the only good thing was the bun it was on. As far as the table salsas are concerned, they suck too including the house specialty salsa that Guy raved about. Take my advice and don't waste your time. I'm Mexican and I've been to Puebla and this is terrible food.

Cemitas Puebla
By Puebla from Wicker Park, March 13, 2008

My wife and I visited this Chicago neighborhood gem Cemitas Puebla recently and had an excellent experience. Cemitas Puebla is a small, family owned restaurant that I wanted to recommend. It is the only Mexican Restaurant in the Chicagoland area that sells Cemitas--a regional sandwich from Puebla! I got the highly recommended Cemita Milanesa. The owner Tony says its a breaded butterfly porkchop sandwich on a fresh sesame seed specialty bread with avocado, tons of authentic Mexican Oaxaca cheese, smoky adobo marinated chipotle peppers, served with homemade salsa. I'm not into spicy foods, but these chipotle peppers are the perfect mix of sweet and spicy. The tacos arabes are another specialty of theirs. These tacos are like no other taco I've had! They consist of pork and onions wrapped up in a thick tortilla with a smoky homemade salsa that will make you sweat! Tony the owner explained to us that it is a Mexican/Lebanese fusion dish. Paired with their homemade horchata--it's out of this world! Their crispy chalupas make an excellent appetizer too! I plan to go back soon to try the Cemitas Atomica an addition to their already unique menu.
