Great Food!

I totally recommend this place. The food is just fantastic and the ambiance is quite cozy and casual. I used Caoba to cater one of my summer parties this past July and they did an outstanding job! Everything was ready in time and the owner personally helped me carry the order to my car. I always try to order something new and I'm always satisfied with the meal! I absolutely recomment their BBQ Ribs and their Skirt Steak but seriously, everything they have is very good :-) Enjoy!

Nice space with cool bar area in the back. While we were there, they has live music with a bass player. I had the green chicken enchiladas, which were excellent, and my husband's fish tacos were also good. I definitely recommend this place!

Taco Tuesday
By roba from roba, June 4, 2008

Typically, I am categorically against fancy Mexican restaurants. The food is usually bland, small portioned and just generally off. I have passed Caoba several times and have ruled it out b/c of its prices. Well, my roommates and I were pleasantly surprised to see $1 tacos on their sandwich board. For starters, the chips and salsa were amazing. The restaurant would be better off if it made its own chips, but the salsa was hands-down the best restaurant salsa I have ever had. It tastes like the salsa my Mexican family makes. The tacos were simple, but fantastic. The meat was moist, tender and flavorful. They reminded me of the tacos you buy from small taquerias, which is a good thing. The service was a little slow, but other than that there was not a complaint among the five of us -- minus the garlic breath following the killer salsa. We will be there again next Tuesday!

Good chips, bad margaritas and bad food
By Ace from Ukrain/Humboldt, May 24, 2008

My wife and I went to Caoba. I ordered a Patron margarita. While I waited we snacked on the chips and salsa. Excellent chips and nice salsa. Received the margarita; tasted like they made it with mix. Nothing like Patron and mix. Blech. Ordered the cheese enchiladas with red sauce and skirt steak fajitas, as I was looking for some beef. Wife said the enchilada sauce was one dimensiional and tasted from a can. The beef fajitas should have been renamed "Grilled peppers with bits of meat in oil." The food was plain and lacked flavor. The meat was tough and like it was sauteed in vegetable oil and lacked beef flavor. The service was good. The kitchen needs help. Won't go back. Step up your flavor or at least try to grill the meat and get some color on it.

Caoba- guys, stop burning my food!

I've been to Caoba a few times. The first time, we got the chicken and steak with grilled veggies. The concept is awesome, but the execution of serving good and edible food, however, is not. Our food was burnt and the meat wasn't seasoned well, in addition to being grisley. We decided to give them another chance, and it happened again! The service is great, atmosphere is cool, and I love the idea of Caoba...but the food fails on all accounts. I won't be dining here again.

Decided to try this new spot on recommendation of varios friends and I am very glad I did.
I was there last night and really enjoyed the live music. This restaurant is very cozy and the service is excellent. Their guacamole is superb and their margaritas are the best I have had in the Bucktown area.

The owners are visible and ensuring the service and food
is up to par.

The mixed grill for 2 was OUTSTANDING, service was so attentive that twice I simply looked toward the back of the restaurant to take in my surroundings and a server (not even our own) came right over to ask what I needed. I DEFINITELY plan to return.

Went early on a Saturday...
By Mike H from chicago, il, July 18, 2007

Went early on a Saturday night. We were seated right away but the five of us had to share one menu. Drink service was sporadic at best and my entree was decent except for being hard to eat and missing the rice and guacamole it was supposed to come with. If it's still around in six months, I'd give it another shot -- hoping everything that is wrong is fixed. Maybe our appetizer will be ready by then.

The salsa was delicious.
