Amelia's Grille
- Neighborhood: Back Of The Yards
- 4559 S. Halsted St.
- Chicago, IL 60609
- 773-538-8200
- Price range: $$$ ($16-$25)
Though it started life as standard taco joint, this Back of the Yards spot now serves refined Mexican fare with Mediterranean influences. Eusevio Garcia, who gained quite a following during his time at foodie fave Mundial Cocina Mestiza, is in the kitchen, and Mundial faithful will recognize many signature dishes. Look for Mexican-leaning favorites, including carne asada, chile rellenos and pechuga de pollo en salsa de cacahuate (chicken breast and roasted red potatoes in spicy peanut sauce), as well as more globally influenced fare such as taquitos de cangrejo (rice paper rolls stuffed with crab meat, papaya, cilantro, basil and peanuts, served with mango dipping sauce) and risotto-crusted halibut with spicy tomato-anchovy-fennel ragout. Desserts are courtesy of Leticia Zenteno (Boka, Landmark, Topaz). Though the rustic, brick-walled dining room is complete with a small back bar, Amelia’s is BYOB for now.
