Stick to what they do well
By JackieJones from Wicker Park, November 20, 2009

I eaten here several times over the last few years with mixed results. I just went recently and just ordered what they do well. Fresh hand shaken margarita, fresh made to order guacamole (asked for a little extra garlic and bit of a kick), and the appetizers, with some tacos. They do the simple stuff better than anyone. Stayed away from the entrees, which in the past have disappointed.

This is my Guac and Margarita place going forward.

So disappointing

This used to be one of my favorite places, but the past few times I have been there it has been terrible. On my recent visit, the service was slow and surly. The usually wonderful guacamole was awful. We watched the woman making it tableside and she just threw together some avocados, tomatoes and hot peppers- and nothing else! I thought maybe we had just missed her doing the rest, but when we tasted it, it was inedible. When we sent it back, the waitress made a big deal of the fact that she wasn't charging us for it! I should hope not! The rest of the food was lousy too. My fish was bland and mushy. Sadly, this will be my last visit.

Weak.

Very disappointing. The margaritas are way too tart and not even close to the caliber of Caesar's. The menu is limited and tasteless. The inside is very nice, but so is my apartment and I make better margaritas.

Overpriced and very rude staff
By Jodie652 from Lombard, July 30, 2008

There were 6 of us and none of us will ever return. Our waitress was very rude and snooty, and after tasting the bland very expensive food, we were very disappointed overall. There seemed to be a air about the place, as if they were doing us a favor by letting us dine there, it was terrible all around, service, food and very very expensive for what you get and the quality of the food. I sent an email to them letting them know, never heard back from them. I would think they would be interested in hearing the experience diners are receiving, but apparently not.

Not as good as it should be...

The Wells St. outpost used to really wow me, but their service was god-awful. At the WP location, I find it's just the opposite-the service is okay, but for some reason, the food isn't as flavorful. The good news: the guac is KILLER at either location, which almost makes it worth the wait. Almost.

Corn Cob Snob
By Tom from Lakeview, June 20, 2008

If you ask for flour tortillas, you will be rather snootily informed that Adobo runs a "flour-free kitchen." Great for it, but, as much as I like Adobo, I like flour tortillas even more, and cannot abide corn tortillas. Therefore, I choose other upscale Mexican restaurants that cater to customers' desires rather than to the chef's. If one can't get what they want at a restaurant, then the value is low.

Delicious

My mom, sister, and I went to Adobo while waiting for our Second City show to begin. The wait staff was very attentive, making sure our glasses were full and clearing plates as soon as we finished. The tableside guacamole was the best guac I've ever had...absolutely delicious. The food was amazing as well, but the portions are small for the amount it costs. The atmosphere is very good as well.

The food was great! The large selection of Tequilas is amazing, a little pricey, but worth every penny. The atmosphere was really authentic.

Good but not Great
By mac_01 from Wicker Park, March 17, 2008

The decor is welcoming and interesting. The service was good, not excellent. The food was good, but a bit costly. I expected more for the money. I do want to try out their tequila and dinner tasting on Wednesdays.

Expensive for what you get
By lincolnpark from lincoln park, November 18, 2007

Great guacamole. Not great service- slow and won't make any changes to your order. They charge you for EVERYTHING. If you ask for a little more salsa, they'll charge you! Every single thing costs you! The food was good but pricey. I just don't think it's worth it!
