Great Frickin Tapas!
By ChristianS from City, November 28, 2009

Came in here not knowing what to expect. Came here 4 times the first week alone. Have never done that since the first week I tried Avec, I could not have been happier! The Citrus Ceviche( which I am very biased since I would eat ceviche everyday for breakfast if I could), Crabcakes, Lamb Stew & Roast Lamb, Duck Confit, Octopus Salad, Saganaki & the weekly specials all floored me. Being tapas gives the choice to put down 3 items at a time easily and they have a great huge inventive menu which keeps making me want to go back again, plus a very nice wine list and its half price bottle on Mondays or half price glass Tuesdays make it a great option on the Randolph strip by me. Check out their menu at www.niarestaurant.com to see how awesome it really it is.....

A Welcoming & Friendly Experience

Visited Nia's bar near closing on a Saturday night and found the staff welcoming and friendly - I wasn't even the last person they readily welcomed in for a drink despite the late hour. Really comfortable and elegant decor. Plus their sangria is probably the best I've ever had - you must try the white sangria!!!

Overall a really pleasant, cozy environment, made all the better by the friendly company you will keep. Plus, they offer complimentary valet services, which puts them a step above the competition. Would definitely try this place again!

Nia Mediterranean Tapas is Top Notch!!!!
By WaltUt from Salt Lake City, October 29, 2009

Was visiting back home in Chicago and was trying to figure out somewhere to eat . My friend Ness who seems to eat out all the time and knows the best places to go told me I have to try Nia Mediterranean Tapas restauraunt. Having traveled all over the mediteranean in the past I was completely impressed with this restauraunt. Food was excellent, service was excellent, and I liked the relaxed atmosphere. My friend Ness eats here a few times a week and I can see why. We ordered a Spanish Omelette with Chorizo which was great, Ceviche, chicken satay which came with two excellent dipping sauces. Everything was excellent but the Ceviche was top notch with everything very fresh. We were just stopping here for a snack before going out taking pictures around Chicago but were full when we left because everything was great. Next time I am in Chicago I will definitely be going back here. I wish I would have tried the Sangria here as I have heard it is great but I will have to try it next time when I come back.

A Great Place to start a night in the city

For starters, as someone who drives in from the suburbs, the free valet is a fantastic plus. Getting to Nias is a breeze, 30 seconds from the expressway. The food was delicious. I have never been one for tapas as I usually found it cheap and a bit tasteless, but Nias is a breath of fresh air. The Chef does great work and the mojitos were the best I've had in a long time! Now that the Currency Exchange is gone, the outside seating is very nice.

Sensory Pleasure

The reviews on here are crazy. Chef Alex is a God in the kitchen. The menu is dynamic and suits all taste buds. The service is exquisite. The atmosphere is soothing. My girlfriend and I had the most romantic night of our relationship and it started at Nias. The place ranks among the best restaurants in the City and rivals world class restaurants.

Nia's has good food but the service was a bit much.

I have decided that I am a little anti-Tapas. Not just here, but all Tapas places. They are just too expensive for what you get. But anyway, if you don't agree, then Nia's is a nice place. However, the menu is confusing to me. On the left they have this meat and cheese selections but I dont know what is the meat and what is the cheese so I left that side alone. Then, down the middle they have tapas but not much beef choices. There was a sauage but not beef choice. The calamari steak was generous and the dover was delicious. But the service for us was a little too much. Every 5 seconds either the bus boy or the waiter was filling water, taking a plate, asking how it was, asking if we want more wine, asking, removing, refilling, replacing, it was sort of obnoxious. Plus, since my dinner companion and I were discussing some sensitive political issues, we had to quit talking when we were approached. So, I would say, please, Mr. Waiter, stay in view and keep an eye on your table. Learn the art of eye contact. If you see one of your tables engrossed in conversation and never looking around, you don't need to pop over to the table constantly. Down time should not be talking to the bartender and then rushing over to give me an ice cube. Down time should be spent standing on the sidelines, watching your customers and being of service. Every time I take a sip of water, I dont need a bus boy running over splashing my glass with more water. To me, that does not mean good service. Calm down.

Variety is the spice of life!

So many options, so many flavors! Between the three of us, we tried 5 different tapas dishes and LOVED 4 of them! The beer was good, the wine was excellent and the dessert was a perfect way to end the evening. Btw: Great ambience and service too!

Inferior
By daisy from West Loop, July 24, 2008

The food was truly awful and the service was not a lot better. We had to ask for silverware several times while our food cooled. The lamb was tough, over cooked, and without flavor. We ordered Feta and they brought ricotta to the table. When feta arrived it was truly second rate. The other dishes were mediocre. Never going back.

What Happened????

When my wife and I had dinner here two months ago I could not wait to tell people about this place. Not anymore. We went back to dinner at Nias last week and I will never go back.First my wife had a server who had no clue of what the menu was about. Maybe she was new? But the food saved the night it was as good as ever. The reason wht my wife and I will not be going back is the owner. She was so rude! She does not understand that the guests are the most important part of owning a restaurant. NIas needs help fast. Sorry never going back. Mr. and Mrs. Steins.

Go to Greek Town instead

To start, the glare of the florescent lighting from the adjacent currency exchange was less than desireable mood lighting. Stunned by the prices of the "tapas" we asked both the hostess and our server, convinced that the former was mistaken only to be reaffirmed by the latter, if the dishes not under the "small plates" section of the menu were larger, full-sized entrees. No, to our amazement, the $18 kabob was just that - a single $18 kabob. The food was alright - we ordered the Nia salad and the Tomato-basil fettucine, but there was no "wow-factor" at all. Do yourself a favor - do NOT order the bruschetta. A plate of extremely over-grilled bread SOAKED in olive oil accompanied by a dish of, guess what, more olive oil is NIA's idea of bruschetta. By far the worst part of the meal. The server was very nice, albeit a bit slammed and inattentive - we didn't get our bruschetta until after both the salad and the pasta were served to us. We ordered it along with the bottle of wine at the beginning of this less than favorable dining experience.
