I ordered an entree because of the side dishes and told the waiter to hold the steak. A manager was sent over to confirm this and asked if I wanted another protein, and when I told him "no," he said that was "weird." After our entrees were delivered we literally never saw our waiter again - he disappeared in the restaurant. No one took over for him or explained or came over. Good thing we didn't want dessert. We had to ask a host for our check and she gave us our change. I felt like I was a character in one of my former-waitress nightmares where I can't get back to my tables. To the restaurant's credit they did very fairly adjust the cost of my entree without the steak.

I have been to this place a fewof times and its never disappointed me. The food is excellent. The restaurant offers a fresh take on Mexican food like no other place and I have Mexican food daily. Even my mother who does not pay for Mexican food since she knows all the tricks to the trade loves it. The brunch on Sundays is also every good. If it was closer to my job I would have lunch there every day. And their wine selection is excellent and margaritas are amazing.

Great clip, Mundial, on Channel 7 news last night! I'd post the channel's video clip here but I don't think Metromix allows that.
I went for dinner two weeks ago with a couple of friends. We did a mini-tasting type of thing and one of the items we tried was the Chiles en Nogada. None of us had ever had this dish anywhere before so we weren't sure what to expect but it was EXCELLENT! So different from anything we'd ever eaten! Everything we ate was outstanding but I think my favorites already are the Alcachofas de Camaron which is made with this to-die-for spinach & shrimp mouse tucked on top of artichoke bottoms and a tasty sauce over it. Another is the Camarones Poblanos and my third favorite item here is their calamari - I LOVE calamari and so many places don't cook it properly! Not the case here and the way they prepare it, it's got this wonderful warm, spicy heat to it. I have to get back here to try more items from the present menu before they change to their next seasonal menu! Service was great though there were a couple language barrier issues with our waitress at one point but didn't detract from our experience!

I loved this place, food was different from the normal Mexican fare, the Chocolate Tamal was delish and although the prices were a little steep, it was a BYOB place so the priceyness wasn't a big deal. Well, BYOB no more! and the menu has changed drastically. No more chocolate tamal, no more carne asada. Very yuppity, what a shame. This place is not worth bragging about anymore.

For years I raved about Mundial to friends. No more. Went there recently and was terribly disappointed. Mundial was a wonderful gem we had enjoyed any number of times. Now, well, not so much is the kindest I can come up with.
Menu is much different than what is posted online. All my faves, the dishes that kept us coming back, and the dishes we went back for after confirming they were still on the (online) menu, are either gone or much changed. And not in a good way. Nopales....gone. Carne Asada.....gone. Calamari....now a rubbery grilled dish so might as well be gone. Prices....way up. Understand that a restaurant needs to refresh its menu from time to time and that as a restaurant gains popularity its prices are most likely going up. Mundial used to be a great value. But when prices go way up and quality goes way down, the equation becomes one we choose not to be involved in.
Made us wonder if it is under new ownership. So sad.

Since it's birth round 2007, I have been thoroughly obsessed with Mundial. The things the other reviews commented on are true- service is hit or miss, and the small location does make table location less than perfect. HOWEVER, when it comes to the satisfaction of your mouth, you are guaranteed perfection. The dishes are bold and experimental, balancing traditional latin american cusine (primarily Mexican as well) with exotic new takes and flavors. Price wise it is a true deal, particularly for lunch time. Dinner is a bit pricier, but for the level of food, it is still a deal. Treat yourself for lunch to get a taste and I promise you'll return for dinner.

Came here for dinner with a friend. I was a little frightened by the menu because I am a picky eater and Although I am of Mexican descent there were quite a bit of items on the menu that were not familiar to me. My friend however, who was born and raised in Mexico City, mentioned those are common foods they eat over there on a daily basis so he explained to me what some of the items were. We started out with the Quesadillas with Oaxaca Cheese and Quitlacoche, which is basically corn smut, it was delicous. Both our main courses are great, although the nopales were a little spicy for me, but considering that I don't eat much nopales, these were yummy. For deseser we had the Aztec Tamal, which is a chocoloate lovers choice, HIGHLY recommended it if you are a chocolate fanatic. The food was very authentic, as well as the atmosphere. We plan to go back for brunch.

This was my third visit to Mundial. Although I hadn't been in over a year, my first two experiences were so incredible that I thought it would be the perfect place to take a friend who soon be moving away. What a sendoff. I knew things were off to a bad start when we walked in and found that it was almost as cold inside as it was outside. An exaggeration, of course. But not by far. I was literally tempted to keep my coat on. Instead, we wrapped our scarves around our shoulders and prayed for heat. Although my dining companion wanted a salad as an appetizer, she ordered soup just so she could warm up. But I'm getting ahead of myself. One of the first things I noted was a new menu--and an incredibly impressive and ambitious one at that. Top Chef caliber. We were so excited it took us a while to figure out what we wanted to order. There was that much to choose from and all of it sounded ridiculously delicious. The problem is that the food failed to deliver what the menu promised. The lobster and cream cheese empanadas were so greasy and doughy that the lobster was imperceptible. My friend ordered the pepperdelle (yeah, bad move ordering pasta at a Mexican place. shoulda known). It wasn't so much bad as it was bland and completely uninspired. I honestly believe I could have had better at the Grand Lux (no offense meant to them). As an entree I had the camarones in pumpkin mole with plantains. In a word, YUCK! What sounded absoultely divine on paper was a dense and muddy visually unappealing mess with a grainy texture that completely overwhelmed the shrimp. Although not inedible, it was close. REALLY close. I had to scrape the mole off just to make it through the shrimp--which wasnt great either. But at 20+ dollars, I refused to leave it on the plate. I wanted to like this meal so much. But by the time I finished the $75 meal, I knew that I would never be back. What happened Mundial???

I reviewed this restaurant before saying that it had at least one really good vegetarian entree, but this is no longer true. They don't have the chile rellano, which was really great. I got a salad and an appetizer (the india salad and the tamales). I didn't really enjoy the salad that much. The tamales were good, I just wish they still had at least the one vegetarian entree.

The waitress was attentive - after everyone else ordered, I asked the waitress if one of the appetizers was vegetarian and if I could get it at the same time the entrees came out. She pointed out that one of the menu items (the chile rellano) was vegetarian even though it was listed under meat in the menu and WOW, was it good! It was a stuffed poblano pepper with fantastic cheeses and an amazing sauce on top. Someone else at my table literally said they had never had food like it in their life. This was the only vegetarian entree but it was perfect for me. There was plenty of seafood for non red meat/poultry eaters, and the appetizers along with a side dish would make a decently priced and filling vegetarian dinner. We also got a strawberry gorgonzola tarte for dinner which I didn't like so much but the others did. They had other more traditional deserts as well.
