I Dream of Falafel

Mediterranean favorites get the quick-serve treatment at this vegan-friendly Loop spot, which caters to a lunch-time crowd. The counter-service set-up allows for total customization: Start with a Lebanese roll, golden rice, salad or a bed of hummus, then add beef or chicken shawarma, kefta kabob (grilled lamb) or falafels. Top it off with the sauce of your choice from a list that includes tahini, raita (spiced yogurt sauce) and spicy tomato. Sides such as dolmas, fattoush and lentil soup are available too, and in the morning there’s a small Med-inspired breakfast menu with options like a shawarma omelet and “falafelette,” chopped falafels mixed up with scrambled eggs. Look for a second location of I Dream of Falafel to open near Lake and Dearborn in October 2009.
