- Price range: $$ ($9-$15)
This casual Lakeview spot got its start as Cousin's, but changed its name after nearly a decade when a new partner came on in 2008. (Efes, or Ephesus, is an ancient city on Turkey’s Aegean coast; it’s also the name of a popular Turkish beer, which is available at the cafe.) The Mediterranean menu is vegetarian-friendly, with a huge appetizer selection including standbys such as falafel, hummus, dolma and garlicky carrot salad as well as signature items such as veggie- and feta-stuffed artichokes. Entrees includes pastas and hearty vegetarian dishes such as stuffed eggplant, as well as meatier options like the beyti lavash kebab (ground chicken or beef kebabs wrapped in lavash bread) and beef moussaka (beef, eggplant and other veggies baked in tomato sauce and served over rice). Efes is big on carryout and does a bang-up delivery business too.
