Semiramis: User Reviews
Semiramis

We just moved away from the area, but for the three years we lived in Albany Park Semiramis was our spot. The food is reasonably priced, tastes FANTASTIC, service is great, and the atmosphere is casual. My fiancee and I went there to celebrate our engagement, buying our first home together (unfortunately away from Semiramis!!!), picked up food for a party, etc. The place is BYOB too! We'll be back, even though we're no longer within walking distance.

We ate here last night for the second time and had a wonderful experience. Staff is attentive and friendly. The food was very good and presented well. We had the grape leaves and falafal as an appetizer. very tasty. I had the special which was a Lamb Shank with rice and veggies. Get there early and sit in the window and people watch. Oh ya don't forget to bring your favorite bottle of Wine. Also try the Turkish Coffee. Enjoy!

Like many other Check Please! folks, we checked out Semiramis in Albany Park. The food was nothing special, and being Middle Eastern foodies, we were quite disappointed. In short, you'd fare much better at Basha's on Dempster or even Kabob 2 (hole in the wall) on Devon.

We ate at Semiramis on 2/6. The place is very pleasant and the service is pretty exceptional. We thought the falafal was great, as was the babaganouj and the hummous. We also enjoyed the roast chicken - not quite as good as our favorite place in the Arab neighborhood in Dearborn, MI, but darn close - and not 4 hours away! The pickled beets were great and we enjoyed the tea. Great baklava, too. We'll definitely eat there again. Great value.

We went to Semiramis the Friday after they were on Check Please and expected it to be busy. When we got there at 8:30pm there was an hour wait and decided to order takeout. The staff was so friendly and the food came out quickly (though they apologized for it taking long - which it did not). My husband loved everything about this meal and claimed it was MUCH better than Andies or Rezas. We are looking forward to being able to dine in the restaurant.

I was kind of disappointed at the quality of the food. The chicken was cold and very dry, it didn't taste like chicken!! The salad was OK, and the Hummus and baba Ganouj were above average. It was also expensive for a lunch place, $15.00 per person plus tip. I would not go back there except for the good service that we received from the server. This not a busy restaurant, there was only one other table occupied in the restaurant at lunchtime.

I LOVE this place! The food is fast, fresh and tasy. The service is friendly and informative. Try the mango shrimp salad, and the french fries with garlic dipping sauce are to die for!
Report This ReviewWhile the food is good, what keeps me coming back is how the restaurant feels. Large westward-facing windows, combined with muted interior colors, open the room to gobs of languid, natural light, and after the sun sets a few mismatched floor lamps provide soft, indirect lighting - a rare commodity among cheap eats. The décor is easy, low budget and sparse, and kibbee and eggplant are married with a pan-cultural aesthetic, giving Semiramis' customers an experience emblematic of what Lebanon may become again: a tapestry of contrasting cultural inputs, well-enough tolerated (if not sometimes celebrated, even) so as to support various harmonious, and positively cosmopolitan, pursuits. But don't hold your breath. For now one will have to be content with wine (it's BYOB) and a roast chicken from one side of the divide, and tabbouleh and maamouls from the other.
Report This ReviewFood is not amazing, but it is very good. Falafel is fantastic, kibbee appetizer perfectly seasoned and cooked. (I could have made a meal out of that!) Husband had chicen kebobs which were very tender and juicy but a bit light on flavor. It is literally right off the Kedzie L stop, so convenient for brown line riders. The service was truly outstanding given the price range. Servers were attentive, friendly, and helpful, and owner was around constantly. Best of all, it's BYO ($3 corkage fee). For our meal for 2 with appetizers, we only $32. We'll definitely be going back!
