Although tiny and without frills, this Ravenswood pan-Asian BYOB gets the job done with quality sushi and Thai cuisine for a wallet-friendly price. Open in August 2007, Umaiya Cafe brings a much-needed Asian presence to the 'hood with the expected Thai entrees and standard nigiri and maki one would hope for at any sushi cafe. But they also deliver in the creativity department with unique creations like the winter roll, a combo of white tuna, salmon, scallions, wasabi mayo, radish sprouts and black tobiko. The Chicago roll unites salmon, red snapper, cucumber, carrot, cilantro and yuzu sauce. Specialty chef rolls are all $8, while the standard makis come in under $5.
