This sleek sushi lounge has opened at the intersection of Cullerton Street and Indiana Avenue in a restaurant-starved area of the burgeoning near South Loop. The restaurant features a separate lounge area with karaoke post-11 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Triad has 1,000 songs and no stage -- you get to mingle with fellow crooners at eye level. The Asian-inflected dining room has a six-seat sushi bar, plus table seating, elevated platform seating, and private VIP room. The VIP room will set you back a $50 room charge, but you get control of your own 37-inch plasma screen TV, DVD player and sound system - bring in movies, borrow Triad's, or they will send staffers to the video store, if needed (reservations required). The large menu includes appetizer choices like tuna tartare, oyster shooters and sake-and-garlic sautéed mushrooms. Nigiri and sashimi is available by the piece, and maki rolls include choices like the Kenju (named after the chef), with shiitake mushrooms and marinated blue fin tuna. There's also a rookie plate of cooked choices for the sushi-squeamish. Entree options include Asian five-spice pork chops, grilled Sapporo-marinated Atlantic salmon, and rib-eye steak teriyaki.
