I really enjoyed the food. The prices were amazing. I loved the atomsphere. I thought that it would be a great date location when we walked into the door until the music hit us. I could not enjoy my conversation with my date because the music was way too loud. I liked food. There were nice touches like the Honey roll. I would go back because the prices were great, but the loud music was a real turn off.

I had a party with 20+ people and we were handled flawlessly. The BYOB was killer and service was great. A huge amout of food was all prepared perfectly and quickly. I was sooo happy that they made my evening go so smoothly. Not an easy task with my group.

I used to LOVE this place. The sushi was amazing and the service was good. One of the best take out places ever. But since they've opened the other location, the service has slipped, and the quality of the sushi has slipped even further. Rolls fall apart, fish that was supposed to just be seared is instead cooked through until tough, and overall they just don't taste as good. :( Too bad, as this WAS one of my favorite restaurants in the city.

While I agree that service can be spotty, there is no doubting the quality of the sushi. I have eaten everywhere and this is hands down one of my top 3 favorites. You just have to be patient when coming here...although I have never experienced any of the problems that other posters have had in regard to service. For example, when I arrive, I order a bowl of edamame, this way if the food is slow to arrive, you are not desperate. Also keep in mind that they primarily cater to carryout and delivery (which still is not an excuse for poor dine-in service). But I so love this place and will keep coming back!!!!

We were looking forward to a fun date night out and trying a new sushi place. We heard the food was great but service was poor, but decided to ignore the critics hoping it was a fluke....not the case. They were very nice when we walked in by offering us 2 quarters for the meter outside and some edamame while we waited. We were seated quicker than expected, but quickly learned that we should have ordered right when we walked in the door if we wanted to eat within the hour. First, this is byob and the staff is actually lazy (and tacky) enough to slap a wine opener on the table and make the customer open the bottle themselves. Really lame move, and THE easiest thing a restaurant can do to make a nice impression when they have to be a byob and the customer brings there own wine. I would like to think this is a random thing, but I have been to the Sushi x on Diversey and they did the same thing---at least at the chicago location they were "busy" (by standards of maybe 10 tables max in the entire place) so they mayyybe had an excuse, but when it happened at diversey my other friend and i were the only 2 people in the entire place. So weird, and if there is a reason behind this, it would be nice to acknowledge or address that with a customer. Another thing it would be nice to acknowledge with the customer is the following, when a table of 2 is waiting 45 MINUTES for 2 rolls. BTW we just started out ordering 2 right away thinking we would get them in 15 minutes at the most and then order more. We had to talk ourselves out of not leaving the restaurant as we watched 5 staff members walk by our table at least a dozen times without acknowledging or mentioning that they made a mistake, food was taking long tonight, asking if they could get us anything in the meantime, or hey--maybe APOLOGIZE that we had been watching people eat around us and we were still without food and our bottle of wine was almost empty. NO
ONE even bothered to come by and offer to refill our glasses as a simple courtesy. I literally had to pull aside someone as he was trying to ignore me again and scoot by, and I HAD to tell HIM that "hey we have been literally waiting for 2 rolls for 45 minutes. He was just quick to say, "oh whoops I will check on that". Finally after another 5 minutes someone else came and let us know someone was plating our food. Still, no one ever bothered to just take responsibiilty that a mistake clearly must of happened / no one put in our order, and apologize to us for the clearly poor service (BEYOND anything I have ever seen). Anyone in customer service reading this would know that an apology and taking blame goes a LONG way in making amends with a custoemer. Instead a woman (I think the daughter of the owner or chef) just breezed by and put our plate down and quickly spit out that they would comp 1 of the 2 rolls. Thankfully it was the most expensive, but while we watched 2 people sit down long after us and get served immediately, the gesture was immediately not enough. I have NEVER written a review on this website, but my fiance and I were so beyond appauled that we came right home and started writing this. Anyways, this restaurant should hopefully realize that their customer service will be there downfall, since unfortunately, the food was actually fantastic. I still will not go back. It is not worth ruining another night when we don't usually have many to go out an enjoy during the week.

Sushi X has the best rolls in the city, bar none. I've both dined at their River West location, and ordered delivery, countless times - and have yet to be disappointed. The area the restaurant is in isn't the best - but inside it's a fun, quaint, hip little joint. The wait staff is great. I often go with girlfriends who get caught up in catching up, and they have no problem with customers staying to hang for awhile after they've finished their food. Highly recommend it.

Take it from someone who has been to about all of the BYOB sushi joints in the city. This place is terrible, high priced(for the quality), cramped, and terrible service. Took 35 min to get three rolls, we were the only people there! Try coast(south) or matsuyama.

not the best, not the worst. def not the place to dine in, its cramped and the service is not great. rolls were decent, although the fish isnt the best. decor is unnecessarily modern, feels more like a dance club than a restaurant, but if thats your thing, go for it. although the prices arent ridiculous, there still too high to justify their food. overall, for strictly takeout , i would only marginally reccomend sushi x. there are far better options for sushi in the city (hama matsu is my favorite). also, no sushi bar?!!!

I absolutely love Sushi X. The sushi is amazing, the staff there is really nice and they have the fastest delivery in Chicago. I have ate their numerous times and I always get delivery from them. I highly recommend you go and check it ou. The Red Dragon is my favorite.

no nagiri. no sashimi. no sushi bar. no drink bar (byob is cool, but there should be a bar). the rolls are passable if you're into super rainbow dragon stuff. the actual fish is not very high quality. none of the rolls had any subtle qualities: spicy tuna was mushy and unnecessarily spicy without much other flavor. Salmon skin was very crunchy with a very sweet sauce (should be crisp with a slightly sweet or lightly tangy sauce). Sashimi roll (not acutal sashimi) was chewy and flavorless. And the special rolls were excessive: bacon-wrapped things, or thai-like experiments that easily overpowered the tasteless, mushy fish. Oh, and absolutely awful service. and they don't take reservations for groups of less than eight; the wait was 1.75 hours (though they said it would be 30-45 minutes). There's not much space to wait, either. The name itself should have tipped me off that this place wouldn't be a real sushi restaurant. I'm not sure what the upside is, other than a stab at trendiness (still, it falls flat there, too. its kind of a hole; not the kind of place you want to consume raw fish).
