I didn't care for the sweet sauce they put on their sushi or the paper rolls. I especially didn't like the sweet shrimp sushi. However the octopus ball appetizer was really good.
Report This Reviewyup - most of these reviews are right on. Sushi significantly above the norm, especially the specialty rolls, but pretty close to incompetent service. I think the food swings the balance to "worth it" though, if you have a little time and patience to spare.
Report This ReviewI just got back from a meal for 3 at Sushi Luxe. Despite the untrustworthy reviews (see "New Tokyo" reviews) the food was very good. It was Tuesday night around 8pm; only five tables were filled so our food came quickly. The Negi Maki (beef) appetizer was lovely, but the Hotate Butter Naki (scallop) appetizer was disappointing (greasy batter).
The combination entrees were great, and portions are very generous. Tastes were subtle and the unfiltered sake was the perfect accompaniment. Our service was OK; very friendly but couldn't remember who ordered what despite the lack of customers.
All in all pretty good, although you pay for what you get.
Report This ReviewSushi was okay but I thought it was pricey for rolls. It was early so service was actually decent.
Report This ReviewLovvvvvvvvvve Sushi Luxe! The atmosphere is laid back and simple, but chic at the same time. It's my new Thursday night out!
Report This ReviewWent on Halloween. The regular rolls (salmon, Alaskan) were fine, and the spider roll was fine. Had two special rolls (an unagi spider roll and a tuna/salmon/red snapper roll) that had a sweet sauce drizzled on them, which we didn't care for. Food was fresh but not exemplary. Unfortunately for us hungry folk, sizes were not large. Salmon sashimi plate was a nice value. The veggie tempura appetizer was also a good value, but the fried tako ball appetizer was a disappointing gooey ball with a few bits of chopped tako inside. Prices were reasonable, and service was fair (our waitress was new). Overall, it was OK...not great, but not bad either.
Report This ReviewFood is delicious-after a wait of a half hour and for a huge price. But, if you've got time and money to burn, burn it here (also try the cocktails-the bartender is fantastically heavy-handed).
Report This ReviewGreat food. We stopped going to Hama Matsu down the street after Sushi Luxe opened up. Better food, better service, better price. Their Sashimi Deluxe is terrific. Han, the sushi chef is great with the traditional and very creative with new stuff. Great ambience if you want somewhere moderately swank without it being too much of a "scene." We go there at least once a week.
Report This ReviewTry this place. If you enjoy the Chicago sushi invasion, you deserve this...
Report This ReviewThe service at Sushi Luxe may not be perfect...but the food more than makes up for it.
The appetizers are wonderful - the best vegetable tempura in the city! The rolls are also delicious! Try the dragon maki with the avocado on the outside.
