This family-run Irving Park spot lives up to its name (sanook means "fun" in Thai) with three projectors playing movies and upbeat music pulsing (at conversation-friendly levels) throughout your meal. There are two menus, one featuring Thai cuisine, one sushi. Special maki include the Big Ben (softshell crab, shrimp tempura, unagi, avocado, cucumber, masago, wasabi mayo, tempura crunch and unagi sauce), named for the sushi chef. On the Thai side, try Stir-fry Hell, tender ground beef mixed with a fiery sauce fueled by Thai chili peppers; sliced bamboo shoots numb the heat just a bit. Sanook also reaches out to the local Thai crowd with karaoke on Friday and Saturday nights after the kitchen closes.
