Katakana and Koko Sushi Bar - Logan Square - Chicago, IL 60647 | Metromix Chicago

Katakana and Koko Sushi Bar

Neighborhood: Logan Square
2829 W. Armitage Ave.

Chicago, IL 60647
773-235-2199
Price range: $$ ($9-$15)

This 4,000-square-foot Japanese eatery in Logan Square attempts a global twist on traditional maki by adding flavors such as pineapple, plantain, coconut, goat cheese and chocolate. There are more traditional options too, as well as a full Japanese menu featuring tempura, soba and udon noodles, teriyaki and bento boxes; entree highlights include sake-soaked bacon-wrapped filet mignon and lamb chops with shiitake mushrooms and wasabi dressing. The dining room feels disjointed, retaining elements of the Mexican restaurant that once occupied the space. Add to that a large sushi bar plopped in the center of the space and walls adorned with huge Picasso reproductions (owners flew in an artist from Europe just to create them) and it's downright confusing. Owners promise a more loungy scene when the downstairs level opens in a few months.
