Good!

It is a nice place to go for sushi. The atmosphere is very nice, relaxed, and calming. the sushi is very fresh, good cuts for the fish. Don't understand why they use white ginger opposed to orange/pink ginger tastes the same just looks strange. The service of caring for the customer and taking orders was very good. Waitress came by quickly to take order, along with several other waitresses coming by asking us how we were doing and asking if the food was good for us, good customer assistance. The only down side I could see was that it took forever to get our sushi order, we didnt even order alot. It was lunch time, we ordered around 12:10, not crowded at all, and the sushi did not get to us until 12:40. I mean it wasn't really long, but unusally long for sushi. The price is also very steap, so if you are looking to save money, maybe you should not come here. But overall, I loved it, great sushi, good service, overpriced but worth it. Try it if you are up to it.

Excellent sushi, excellent service, wonderful dining experience
By gabi37avsfan from Hyde Park, March 17, 2008

I regularly eat at this location for lunch and/or dinner, and I have never had a problem with bad or slow service, never had a problem with the sushi, etc. On the contrary, I have found the servers to be extremely pleasant, helpful and prompt, and the sushi to be delicious and not overpriced. The ambiance of this location is wonderful as well.

NOT WORTH IT! I went for lunch and waited a very long time for my sushi order. The pieces and maki was quite small and overpriced. The spicy tuna roll is better from the grocery store. The menu is standard issue with no imagination. I will be spending my money and time elsewhere from now on.

What has happened to Kamehachi,...
By What Has Happened? from Streeterville, IL, April 19, 2007

What has happened to Kamehachi, Streeterville? We have been regulars since the original restuarant on Wells. We are accustomed to finding the food excellent and the service great. The past few visits have been dissapointing. The maitre d's always dissapoint with bad tables, no recognition of regulars, etc. A few regular waiters/waitresses are hanging on, but not many. The crowd seems to have suburbanized (valet space out front was all SUVs last night.) The new wait staff is closer to Dick's style than a true sushi bar. Prices are up, again. Menu has drifted to Pot Belly style offerings (strawberry cake with whipped cream for desert?) Food quality is down -- maguro came looking like 3-day old toro. What has happened?

(ON WELLS) Went to dinner...

(ON WELLS)

Went to dinner and was offered a terrible table downstairs in the brightly-lit, boring restaurant area. The waitress forgot our drinks, delivered the sushi before the appetizer, and was generally unaware. It took her so long to come to check on us that we were essentially done before we could inform her that one roll was wrong and that our edamami was missing (it later showed up on the check). The food was fine, not f-i-n-e but O-K. At least they were not blasting techno. "Nobody listens to techno, now let's go."

Perfect, I was there with a group from out of town, and we had great food, and the atmosphere was unique and deliteful. Can't wait to come back to Chicago, will definitely eat there on my next trip to Chicago, I want to go to the original location next time, I heard it was the first Sushi Restaurant in Chicago.

Some years back, I had eaten at the old town location when in town on business. It has been three or four years since I've been back to the city, and what changes. I went to the old location first and was dissapointed.Terrible personnel and the food was not the same. Two nights later, I went to the new one on ontario andIt was the same - not very good.Teach the people who work there a little about service.Don't serve the food unless you can be proud to take it to a table!
