Indie Cafe

Neighborhood: Edgewater
5951 N. Broadway

Chicago, IL 60660
773-561-5577
Price range: $$ ($9-$15)

This cozy cafe serves both Thai and Japanese dishes, with ample sushi and maki choices. Most of the small dining room has views of the sushi bar. The dishes here are not what you would expect from a neighborhood spot, but even simple dishes like chicken satay arrive looking pretty as a picture. There are several Thai noodle, rice and curry dishes, including the signature mussamun curry with lemongrass, coriander, garlic, onion, peanuts and potatoes. Maki rolls include the standards, plus signature choices like the "santana," with tuna and scallion tempura, masago, cilantro, jalapeno, cucumber, spicy sauce, lotus and lime. The nigiri comes two pieces per order, and there are chef's choice sushi and sashimi platters.
