Hatsu Hana Japanese Restaurant: User Reviews
Hatsu Hana Japanese Restaurant

I used to be a frequent diner at Nohana, before it became Hatsu Hana. Nohana was an inexpensive, solid meal, but definitely not high-end Japanese food. Hatsu Hana has brought an improvement in the food quality. The sushi chef is talkative and gave us good recommendations on what was fresh that day. As promised, the fish was fresh. The rolls were standard, but better constructed than Nohana's which would fall apart. We also enjoyed the Kaki-oysters, oyster shooters, and Udon soup. I'll miss Nohana's super-cheap happy hours, but I'm happy that Hatsu Hana is bringing some higher quality Japanese food to the neighborhood. It's already light-years better than the perpetually awful New Tokyo across the street.

We sat in the front near the sushi bar and the head sushi chef, Mr. Hong, was extremely friendly and interactive with us. We ordered a bunch of appetizers and some rolls and two pieces of sea bass and the chef made it with just scallions and fish stuffed inside rice paper, no rice. It was really tasty. Customer service was great! We felt like we were the only people in the place.

Good basic, inexpensive sushi! While the service is just ok, the quality of the fish is just as good as the more expensive places.
Report This ReviewNohana has one of the best rolls ever called Bob's roll. The sushi is decent overall and not too expensive. It is not one of those annoying trendy expensive sushi restaurants which is a good thing.
Report This ReviewThe food was practically inedible. We ordered sushi and a few rolls, and the fish arrived warm (!!!), and the rolls looked like they had been assembled by a two year old. Miso soup had no flavor, either. Service was unfriendly. We'll never be back.
Report This ReviewSure, it's not amazing sushi, but it's usually very fresh and the prices can't be beat. Maki aren't bad, but the individual pieces are generally very good. Still worth the money in my book!
Report This ReviewI've eaten here many times because friends and family liked the low prices, or we couldn't get a table across the street (another sushi place that USED to be really good). However,I end up regretting it every time. The service has always been friendly, but the food (sushi and other entrees) is mediocre and the restaurant always seems a bit dirty.
Report This ReviewThis was my favorite restaurant, I loved the happy hour and came there every other week. Lately however, I became disappointed with the sushi and the rolls. It seems that the place got used to having a crowd and started slipping up. Why bother making good food if people keep coming anyway. Well I will no longer attend. Instead I will start going to the one across the street. It's a bit more money but the freshness and the quality is unquestionable.
Report This ReviewIf you want decent sushi at a cheap price, this is the place to go. However, if you're looking for good service, definitely head somewhere else.
