This place is amazing! If i could eat there every day I would... amazing deals, super fresh fish, and the sushi chefs are really kind. I almost dont want to tell people about this place and keep it to myself, but maybe if it gets more attention they can have a bigger place!

I noticed many reviews of the rolls. For those of you who actually love the fish in your sushi and not just spicy tuna in a roll, let me tell you how "wowed" I was by the quality of Green Tea's sashimi and nigiri. I dare you to find another Chicago sushi bar that rivalsl the quality of Green Tea's Unagi or Uni. At first glance through Green Tea's tiny storefront from the outside, I was intrigued by the low prices and the Asian customers (always a good sign:)) After one late lunch, I was a Green Tea fan. Tip- at these low prices, order the sashimi instead of the sushi. Ten piece sashimi and a four piece sushi lunch came to $20... Take that, the rest of you sushi joints. To wash down the Uni, I had the most amazingly opaque jade-green tea of my life. To boot, this place is filled with intelligent looking people who keep their conversations at a pleasant level instead of shrieking debutantes.

After reading all the good reviews, I ordered takeout from here a few weeks ago. One thing I can agree on with everyone is the value. You get a good amount of food for the price, but I thought the sushi was not good at all. The rolls were more rice than anything, and it didn't taste fresh. The nigiri was actually decent, but overall I was not impressed with the food. On a good note, they got our order right, and it was ready quickly.

I almost don't want to review Green Tea, because I don't want to fight you for a seat. Green Tea is a sushi bar with 5 two top tables. It isn't a place to bring a party of 6 or more, they can't accomodate you. The place is tiny, and survives largely on take-out.
In terms of sushi, Green Tea is a real value. The head sushi chef cuts generous slices, and the prices are circa 1992. Things like Dragon and Rainbow rolls are $4 less than most places, and the quality and presentation is far far higher. Nigiri pieces are generally $2 and lower.

I have tried sushi all over Chicago (NYC, San Fran, etc) and this is the best sushi for the money. As far as a restaurant, this is a mom & pop shop so thats the atmosphere you get. The service isn't great and the place is small but the Sashimi is always top notch and about as cheap as it gets. There might be marginally better sushi in the city, but it will be trice the price. Try the Summer roll and the Chicago Spicy Crazy for some excellent taste combinations.

Green Tea was such a pleasant surprise - food was prepared with a lot of pride. The presentation was beautiful and they did a good job of giving us a little bit of food at a time. To be honest, I don't think everything would have fit on the table at once! Sushi was great and so reasonably priced. When we left, the whole staff thanked us for coming and bowed.
Until yesterday, I never heard of Green Tea sushi. From here on out, I think I might become a regular!

I get take out sushi here all the time. The sushi is very good. A bit small but the service is usually prompt. It does get busy and you may have to wait a few minutes, but the wait is worth it. Plus, the price is RIGHT!! Bob Barker loves this place.
Report This ReviewMy first visit after reading other reviews. I ordered take out (8:30 on a Wed nite) and was quoted 45 minutes. Had to wait another 15 after arriving for 2 rolls. There were 10 customers, 3 sushi chefs, 2 guys at the counter, and a waitress & bus boy. All at the counter seemed to be having difficulty juggling and prioritizing the take out orders as others coming in had to wait as well.
Ordered a crunch based on other reviews -found it extremely greasy compared to similar rolls elsewhere. Thought the Chicago Crazy Roll would have been spicier. May try again, but not for take out.
