When the subject of Italian beef in Chicago comes up, Johnnie's Beef is invariably one of the top contenders. With lines snaking out of the take-out operation, Johnnie's does a brisk lunch and dinner business, but the cash-only routine moves quickly. The beef and sausage are cooked and seasoned in-house attracting everyone from Hollywood types (Joe Mantegna and Robin Williams are fans) to those with long layovers at O'Hare.
