Hands down...one of the very best!

Thi s is my first review but I felt compelled to write because Rose Angelis is one of the very best restaurants in all of Chicago. I've been going there for more than 7 years and have a fab experience every time. For a memorable meal, come hungry and start with the pizza special and try to save room for dessert -- it's hard with the innovative pasta entrees!

so good

To all of those people leaving negative reviews..first if you were asked to not be so loud you probably had a couple bottles of wine and were being too loug. Take it with a grain of sald and move on with life, there are bigger problems in the world. To the other individual if you don't like cream in your sauce then order it without the cream, its really that easy. Stop trying to find somthign to complain about and enjoy this wonderful place. With an always helpful staff, and a wonderful atmosphere, and unbelievable food you can't go wrong. They will even call you at the bar next door when your table is ready. Five stars over and over again!

what happened?

always on my list of "must eats"... with their robust pasta dishes and savory infamous bread pudding... last night was such a disappointment. the seafood pasta, spinach noodles with chicken, chicken marsala = tasteless, forgetful, "could do better at home". being the only veteran diner, i hyped up the place only to shocked by the "tomato sauce" dish. we had a wonderful server only to be overshadowed by a hi-strung host, however. way too many excellent restaurants in chicago to continue dining at now sub-par rose angeli's and certainly not worth the wait for hunt's tomato sauce.

A Truely Delicious and Romantic hot spot

The food is some of the best I've had in this city and we eat out a lot. The menu changes but always keeps with its innovative array of tastes and new flavors. The salads are great to share as a starter and the pasta dishes are always exceptional! We recommend Rose Angelis to friends often and they always thank us and rave about how wonderful it was. As for the negative reviews I read below, you can go anywhere and have a bad experience if you're looking for one, not every server is going to be perfect every night, and sometimes you just order something that isn't a favorite. But at Rose Angelis there is ALWAYS great food and a smile when you walk in the door!

Questionable Customer Service

This USED to be one of my favorites, until last night when our party of 9 was asked to "keep it down". In my opinion, don't seat big parties in a small room with 3 walls and only 3-4 tables. There is plenty of space to put larger parties in the back which would drown the noise. AND, on top of that, if the GM had any common sense, he would have told us they needed the table to seat other parties and would have brought us to the bar for another cocktail, instead of telling us to keep it down. We were so disappointed with the way things were handled that none of us would return... maybe next time you should handle things differently to please your guests, especially in the light of the holiday season!!!

Lovely

I have been to this restaurant several times since introduced to it and I cannot get enough. The food is great and I love that the chef is always there in the window. My servers have been well informed and helpful. Most of all I love the rustic atmosphere. I just returned to the U.S. after living the last three years in Italy and this place brings me back there- especially the wine glasses.

Soupy food

Went on a Sunday night and had excellent service. I was disappointed in the food though. All of their pasta entrees had cream sauce except two which disappointed me since I prefer to eat on the healthier side. The entree I ended up having was very watery and had no flavor. Will not go back again.

Cozy but Disappointing
By sharon from Albany Park, October 26, 2007

My boyfriend recently took me to Rose Angeles for my birthday. While the atmosphere is very very cozy and comfortable, from the little wooden bar at the front, to the various dining rooms which unfold on the first floor of what seems to be a three-flat building (?), our main courses were kind of a bummer.
We started with grilled calimari, which came as flat, tender calamari strips in a brown gravy-ish sauce with carmelized red onions- it was different and really tasty, and I wish we had more bread to smear around in the sauce. I highly reccomend this dish.
I got the frutti di mare for dinner, and it was just lame. The seafood was cooked perfectly, but the sauce was scant and flavorless, and so was the over-abundant pasta. My scallops tasted like they were sprinked with baking soda. The flavor was just wierd- needed garlic, etc. Plus, there were no salt and pepper shakers at the table, which always bugs me as a salt-addict. Put some salt out so I can flavor up your food!
My boyfriend had the duck-filled tortollini, which he was looking forward to all week. He said he couldn't really taste the duck, and that the sauce was overpowering. There was also too much cheese, in the form of big chunks.
At the end of our meal, I was full, but not really satisfied. He was full and groggy.
I'm willing to bet that their other dishes are pretty good, and we may not have chosen wisely.
Additionally, the wine is served in juice glasses, which for me, isn't cute, and detracts from the enjoyment of wine.

Hard to find but worth the trouble
By Frankie the cheese from Manhattan, September 19, 2007

Rose Angelis is mixed in with all the nice homes on Wrightwood. Parking is really hard to get so be prepared to drive around a bit. The food is really good and the atmosphere is very pleasant. But because they don't have reservation (at least not for small parties) you might have to wait a long time if you go during prime dinner hours. It is worth it though. I have consistently had a great dining experience at this restaurant.
