Ristorante Al Teatro: User Reviews
Live nearby and often stop by this beautiful restaurant TO grab a double espresso at 4pm at their Gelato/Espresso bar (opens at 4pm). Take it from an aficionado coffee bean lover and chef who has lived in Paris- Ristorante Al Teatro serves the most delicate and delish espresso in Chicago. They roast their own beans on site. They take care in making every shot. These are true professionals.
PIZZA- Last week my friend brought a pizza from Al Tetaro and requested no cheese as niether of us imbibe on the stuff. We actaully just wanted a snack while we work.
Well they score high again! Not expecting a miracle from a meat centered establishment it was THE BEST PIZZA I have enjoyed in a very long time. The wood fire these platter of delight properly and
because it is a failry high end establishmet you get TOP ingredients on a pizza right down to the Oilve Oil. What a difference from a pizza ordered at a pizza focused place. Now I know where to get gourmet thin as cracker crust pizza with the top spinach, mushrooms,
tomatoes and oil. And the toppings are actually sauteed PROPERLY prior to adding to the pie. So many other places are lazy and skip this. step.
Pizza lovers in Pilsen should get hip to Al Tetaro wood fired pizza. Treat yourself to authentic Italian style wonder pie. We have set aside one night a week as Wonder Pie night to grab a pizza from Al Teatro wood oven to enjoy while we do our tech work. Reminds me of my fav pizza joint in Paris while attending culinary training.
My I also mention that I haven't come across a staff so professional, polite and unobtrusive upon a dining experienece. That is very European also. Kudos to Al Teatro from me. My fav Parisian pizzaj oint used to serve a pasta swimming in big bowl of light tomato vegan broth loaded with spinach, mushrooms, roasted tomatoes and whole garlic cloves
with a top of a spirnkle of pine nuts.. A dish I make in 12 minutes flat..ahhhh.
Maybe the would add it if suggested. Check this place out. Parking is almost is plentiful in our hood but they have valet too. Closed Mondays.
Ha! All this from a non reviewer type person.

After seeing this wonderful restaurant on 190 North, we decided that it was a Must Try!!! After eating there, it's a Must Frequent!!
The feel of the restaurant and quality of the food is over the top. "Mark_res" definitely needs to eat at the McDonalds up the street!! The veal scallopine limone was the best of any italiian restaurant we've ever had in the City . . . and we are Italian!! The gelato is made fresh daily and it shows . . . Without a doubt, anyone who enjoys great food, and great value will cherish the warmth of the owners and staff. Thank you for being there!!

This has to be one of my new favorite places in Chicago. The owners are warm and friendly, with a passion for excellent food and historical preservation. I suggest you try their music nights on Sat/Sun with live Jazz, as well as the 3 course brunch for $15.99 which includes preseccco or mimosa....The building is from the 1892 and is decorated to honor the Chicago Columbian expo world fair. It was the location of the writing and signing of the Czech-Slovakian Constitution, as well as a theatre above it set to be restored in the near future. It is the only living reminder of the original Prague Opera House. Like all new businesses it takes time to work out the kinks, but I have a very promising outlook for Al Teatro. BTW the Gelato is delicious!

I think this is an average restaurant, not worth the money and food is lacking in flavor and presentaion.who is the chef ??????? it is a shame, I broke down in tears for this landmark building in the wrong hands. one star is enough, just another brick on the wall.

This restaurant impressed me much more than I was expecting it to. I've been to Italy numerous times and I was pleasantly surprised to find that the food was superbly authentic. I don't think any other place in Chicago has as fine a bologna spaghetti sauce as this one! Everyone loved the dishes they ordered, including the classic margherita pizzas. The wine selection is also very good. As for service, I was part of a group of 20 and we were all tended to efficiently by four attentive waiters who were friendly and answered all of our questions concerning the dishes and drinks. However, I gave only 4 stars for service because we were seated in the lower level (which felt something akin to a dungeon since we were near the wine stash) when the main level was clearly empty enough to accomodate us. When it came to ambiance, I was SO GLAD to see that the restaurant stayed true to the original Thalia Hall fixtures. People are welcome to sit at the bar (I saw at least two bars) with a glass of wine and/or their gelatto, of which there are many flavors. Considering that Ristorante Al Teatro is smack-dab in the middle of Pilsen, I was surprised at the prices, but the overall experience of dining there was certainly worth the cash. I plan on returning very soon!

People were talking sooo much about Ristorante Al Teatro before it opened, that I could not wait to give it try. First, I realized where it was located and could not believe that a restaurant was being built in historic Thalia Hall. We arrived to the restaurant and were seated up front at a table. Now, I sat with my back to a booth like chair and I felt like I was playing Tea Party with my daughter. I was so high up compared to the table I really felt uncomfortable. Then, our server could not describe in detail to us hardly anything on the menu. When we did begin to receive our food, some of it was cold, while other plates were hot. The food, no matter hot or cold was just not up to par. This place really DISAPPOINTED me and really needs to shape things up.

We live in Wicker Park and this was like a field trip for us. Compared to our local eateries and certainly, to downtown, this place is less pretentious, less pricey, with good tasting food and nice pours of wine. The crowd is diverse and a few are dressed a bit casual for this nice restaraunt, but that is not a bad thing and is a nice departure from the homogeneity of pretentious downtown dining. The server was very attentive but actually overzealous and impeded our conversation with his too frequent table visits and conversation attempts

It is beautiful. I came in because I saw gelato and they have the best homemade ice cream. They let you sample. I tried the limone, it was great! I will be back to try the Pizza. Anthonio was our server and he gave us a tour of the place. Great as intimate setting, as well as in a group. Definitely recommend you go. :-)

We are new to the Pilsen area and this was a great historical place to be. The food was great and it's not too pricey. We even had a show from the pizza Chef, Miguel. Nothing but smiles and laughs, and he knows how to make a great pie!!!!
