Pompei Bakery has been a fixture in Chicago's Little Italy neighborhood since 1909. Fresh-baked pizzas and pizza strudel (a thick, bready version of traditional pie) are so popular citywide that Pompei now has multiple locations. The Taylor Street location is saturated in Old World tradition, with wood floors, some frosted glass and long glass cases filled with pizzas, salads and some serious-looking desserts. Those desserts also make Pompei a popular post-dinner spot, if you're dining early. The founding family sold the company to David Morton, of the steak house clan in 2004.
