Piccolo Sogno

A changing, moderately priced w/ menu. A few inventive entrees with a anti pasti tabel remenecent of eating in Italy. Service was efficient, informative but not intrusive. A value when compared to the pricing @ some of the "alto cuchina" resteraunts in the city

Perfection! Arugula Salad, Whole Sea Bass in Lemon Caper Butter Sauce and Biscottis with a fine after dinner drink, what a beautiful meal and service to back it up! Nice to find that the whispers and print accolades are true.

Beautiful patio!!!!

We love Piccolo Sogno! This Saturday was the second time we went there, we absolutely love the garden!!!! It's the most beautiful patio in the city, hands down!!! Went there with 3 other friends and everything was just great! The hostess, Christine, was really friendly and got us a beautiful table, food was great too ( my friends were really impressed !!); I lived in Italy for 2 years and I can say that the food is traditional Italian 100%!! The wine list is huge and you have lots of choices. Will try to go back before summer is over although it's really hard to get a reservation! the place gets booked really fast! No wonder, with such a beautiful patio!

High Expectations Poor Performance

Very disappoining for a spot that has lots of potential. A great place for a drink and a quick graze, although I bet it's hard to pull off. The service is terrible -- too many staff that seem to run in circles -- Found the food very bland, and all the entrees tasted alike, where is the soul? Good homemade pastas are overcooked, and different sauces tasted the same.

Probably the nicest al fresco dining patio around town. I hope they work on the service, and put more effort in to making the entrees taste distinct. I will return with great reluctance.

Still looking for good Italian food ...
By ridgebacktrainer from Bucktown, July 21, 2009

Amature on all levels. I heard the chef came from a really good restaurant that I have not been to yet since I just moved here from San Francisco. Are there any good Italian restaurants in Chicago? I will keep trying to find one ... this certainly is not one of them! One redeeming factor is that the patio could be good for a drink but I don't think they would go for that.

expecting more, got less

With all these folks going to Italy to learn, you would think they could get it right. This place misses the mark at so many levels. Food is bland though the pasta is good. Sat the bar and was amazed at the crowd. It must have been the AARP discount night because everyone except for the brunette next to me was 50. Gray abounded in the room. So it is not a young crowd. Wine list is extensive and worth going there for a drink. It is a nice bar.
The waiter who took of me for dinner was in over his head. Food came before drinks. The garden area is nice but it is not all that great to get all these rave reviews. Better place along Chicago Ave to have dinner. A lot better vibe and crowd at other places. West Town Tavern, Green Zebra, Natalino's, Mexique to name a few. Something is missing here from the front door greeting to the kitchen. It will not last long in this economy.

Thought it would be better

I read some good reviews for this and thought the chef was supposed to be good but the food was overcooked and the service was slow. Patio is nice but I would rather sit outside somewhere where you can see people walk by.

Disappointing
By Mercat from Goldcoast, July 10, 2009

My party of 9 wanted to try a new place and sit outside. The menu was unexciting and predictable. It took forever to get our drinks and then the server rushed us to get our order and everyone did not get their main courses at the same time. At the end of the meal we all wanted to just relax and finsh our wine but the waiter kept coming back and made us feel like they wanted us to leave.

Friendly staff, amazing food, good atmosphere!

I went to Piccolo Sogno on a Monday night and I cannot believe how crowded it was!!! I went there with my husband, we were told it might be a wait for the patio, and we were willing to wait since we didn't make any reservation. The hostesses were great, very friendly, we got seated in less than 5 minutes, on the patio. The outdoor garden is just amazing, you don't even feel that you're in the city...Our waiter was also very knowledgeable and professional, our food was delicios, and we can't wait to go back!! We're gonna tell our friends about this place! Thank you Piccolo Sogno!

Worst Service in Chicago
By jrlikestoeat from bucktown, June 21, 2009

My wife and I dined outside on the patio with 2 other couples on a recent Saturday night. The ambiance is fantastic, the food was very good, but the service was absolutely horrendous. Our waiter forgot several separate drink orders, brought out an incorrect entree twice, and left us flagging down bus boys to relay requests. This disaster lasted for close to 3.5 hours. It did seem the poor service was directly tied to our server as the tables around were turned over twice in that same duration. The six of us agreed we would never go back. A fair warning to all prospective customers, keep your fingers crossed with your server and hope for the best.
