What started out strong, ended up disappointing. We were welcomed by a very nice and gracious hostess who seated us at a nice secluded table. But even though it looks very pretty inside, on close inspection it was rather dirty. There were crumbs on my seat before I sat down, there was schmutz on the salt and pepper shakers and they were greasy, and something was encrusted on one of my plates. I think it was our waiter's first night, so we cut him some slack, but our food was only fair at best, which surpised me for the location, ambiance and prices. Since it's so close to home, we've thought about giving the place a second chance, but I'm still just too skeeved out by the filth to go back just yet.

We ordered the grilled calamari. It was not fresh. It should have been properly cleaned and served with a nice balsamic reduction. The fillet Mignon medallions were poorly presented and the meat was tender but dry. The salt encrusted sea bass came as a whole fish, head and all with a smattering of salt on top. Then the server started to dissect the bass in front of us. This may have worked at a Chinese restaurant but here it felt awkward. When I saw "salt encrusted" on the menu, I thought that the fish would be completely encrusted with salt and I would have to open the crust to reveal a beautiful fillet inside. At 32 dollars for this dish, you can see why I had high expectations! There were poorly grilled zucchinis on one side of the plate and a smattering of potatoes on the other. The fish itself tasted more like lake trout than bass and it was bland and boring.
We left the restaurant 100+ dollars shorter and very disappointed at our experience.

I appreciate being able to walk to a neighborhood spot for authentic Italian cuisine. The food has been consistently fresh and well-prepared on each of my 5 or so visits. The owner would do well to hire well-informed servers or train her staff on the menu items and wine list. The service can be a bit clumsy, but the food makes up for less than perfect service so far. I wish them continued success and hope they stay in the neighborhood

It's great to finally have an exceptional restaurant, especially an Italian one, in the Edgebrook/Sauganash neighborhood. It is a warm , friendly place to dine with friends and family. The hostesses an wait staff really make you feel welcome. Even when we were there with young children, they were most accommodating. We have been there over six times - even on New Year's Eve - and haven't ever been disappointed in the food. The lasagna is especailly wonderful - not overwhelmed by thick pasta which you tend to find in other places. The last time we were there, my husband and I shared the grilled pork chop and the gnocchi with butter sage sauce - awesome! Interesting wine list.

I thought this place was great. My date requested something for dinner that was not on the menu and they were more than willing to meet his request. Service was fantastic! I felt it was a very romantic place, it was just missing music. I have no idea on pricing because they were not listed on the menu. I ordered pasta with sausage and peppers that was awesome. I had enough left over to last me for two days. Highly recommended!
Helpful hint: in the evening you can park in the church lot which is two steps away from the restaurant.

My girlfriend and I have stopped in there twice so far. The second time, the bartender and waiter remembered what we had ordered the first time and checked to see if we wanted something new. The service is spectacular along with the atmosphere. The food is excellent and the wine list is not far off. It is a little expensive at times for what you are getting. But, overall it is an excellent restaurant.

I was so excited when Piatto opened because it is so close to home and my boyfriend and I like to be able to go to restaurants in the area. I have been there 4 times, each time with different people, and have been extremely disappointed each time. The first 3 were not long after they had opened so I gave them the benefit of the doubt because it was so new but each time I went it was the same problems. I even took a card and wrote an email to the address that was on it and never even heard a response! The only thing remotely good about the place is the wine and some of the appetizers. As far as the main dishes go all that I or others have tried have been fairly bland. It is way to expensive for what you get, and the neighborhood, and if I am paying that much I would rather drive downtown or go down the street Pasta D'Arte or somewhere in Edison Park or Nonna Silvia's in Park Ridge. Whereas before I may have returned just to have a glass of wine with friends or my boyfriend, last night was the absolute last time I will ever spend my money at this establishment.

I have visited Piatto several times and have found more misses than hits at the restaurant. The pasta is good and so the olive based spread provided with your bread. Beyond that there is not much to recommend. The other dishes such as the lemon veal is an unappealing dish and the taste matches the appeareance. Just way too much lemon. While I can appreciate a gimmick the two ladies who run the front of the house are not pleasant people. The chef does walk around and I would prefer if he spent his time ensuring our dish came out perfectly. The wine list is interesting with few well known names so it is fun and a challenge to match wines and the food. The wait staff is energetic and unskilled. Utensils are clumped on the table for you. All in all it is decent, but there are better places to spend your money in Edgebrook for better quality.

The cozy and friendly atmosphere of the restaurant is only enhanced by the wonderful food. Chef Maurizio is from Venice, and he brings his Italian authenticity to a wide range of offerrings. Not your typical Italian restaurant, Piatto offers a variety of dishes not found elsewhere.
This is a family-friendly place, but also suitable for dining that is business-related, and even romantico. From the hostess to the busboys, the staff is high quality. And table-side visits from the chef increase the diner's sense of being someone special.
