Osteria Via Stato: User Reviews
The Pizzeria Via Stato - is part of the Osteria - it has a limited menu but the food is amazing. I have eaten the pizza of the month now every single month for the last year. It is classic italian pizza - crispy thin, three ingredients with just a little cheese. If you are a deep dish person or love mounds of cheese skip this place. Most months the pizza is so good, we go twice. Tonight was one of those nights. Jeruselum artichokes, white truffle oil and king oyster mushrooms with parmesan cheese. I have eaten pizza at most of the major places in Chicago and this one beats them all. Treat yourself and order the "chocolatecello" - an amazazing version of lemoncello except with chocolate! Great price, cute place - excellent service. As I walk home each time and see the crowds waiting to eat at Uno's can not for the life of me figure out why they don't just walk two blocks to this place and eat some great pizza. It is inside the embassy suites hotel.

We had a nice pre-theater dinner on this summer Saturday evening: the varied (if compact) menu, good food, and attentive service made for a good time. For starters, the crispy/tender bread was a hit with us, as was the complimentary olive plate. An arugula/parmesan salad was faultlessly fresh and tasty. Fried calamari were superb: tender, fresh and tasty (though the sauce could have been brighter). The signature pappardelle with meat ragu was luscious; my companion’s parmesan chicken spaghetti was a notch down, but still yummy. Bonus points for offering half portions of many pastas and for cooking the (excellent) pasta to al dente perfection! For dessert, a trio of gelati was nicely presented and delicious, as was the cappuccino. As is often the case with its eateries, Lettuce Entertain You seems to have hit all the right notes at Osteria via Stato…

My husband & I went for dinner at Osteria via Stato, tonight, and had a pretty disappointing experience. We ordered an appetizer salad to share, and waited 40 minutes for it to show up! Seriously. I kept seeing our waitress come out & glance at our table, and then go back into the kitchen...like she was expecting the salad to deliver itself...but then she never actually came back with it! After we finally got it, it really wasn't very good..salad tasted old, was way too salty..mediocre. I had the homemade gnocchi which was fairly good, though nothing to rave about. My husband had chicken which was also pretty average. I got a chocolate tart for dessert, and the crust was very bland, not leaving a very good taste in my mouth. Overall, I would suggest going elsewhere. The service was very inattentive & the food pretty average for what appears to be a nice-looking restaurant! On the plus side, it's not too expensive!

I work at a hotel in River North and am always trying out new restaurants in the area to recommend to our guests, and this was a great fun spot. This was the sort of restaurant you could dress up and have a nice dinner or, or dress down and have a budget friendly casual dinner. The service was very friendly and helpful. Everyone was so sweet and unpretentious and helpful. We had the 3 course dinner and some things we loved some things were just good, but nothing was bad. The ricotta cheese cake was wonderful!! so was the espresso. I can't wait to go back again! I will recommend this to my guests for sure.

I took a friend there to celebrate his birthday on Sunday 18 February. After a drink at the bar we proceeded to our table and began the family-style feasting with the wine pairing. I had dined here once before in a large party, but they artfully accommodated our party of two for a dinner that was memorable in every respect. Our server was warm and well-informed on the night's offerings and the food was a delight. The wine pairings were just the right style and amount to complement the dishes, which were authentically Italian and very flavorful. There wasn't room for dessert, but next time I will plan to leave a little room for their interesting offerings. Osteria Via Stato represents a great value for a fine night out!

The food is great. I don't really like olives, but I love them here. My Italian husband/in laws love this restaurant. If you go, definitely do the house party dinner menu - the appetizers, pastas, salads are great.

This is really a great Italian dinner spot in River North! We were expecting "average"-- but we got GREAT. We had the Italian fix-prix Tasting Dinner @$36/person and it was worth every penny. The individual portions of every course are smallish but there are about 8 of them plus a normal size entree. Who needs more food than that? Everything was prepared to order and our seafood entrees were perfectly cooked. Our server (Chris P) was super, and the Basil Panna Cota for dessert is not to be missed! Nothing special about the atmosphere but the food makes up for that anyway. I am a big time foodie and since I live in the city and have so many choices, the food has to be really great for me to make a return visit to any restaurant. I would definitely go back to this one!
Report This ReviewEaten here several times in the past but recently service was horrible and the staff was unhappy. Food is over priced and heavily seasoned with too much butter and cheese. Skip it.
