Wonderful

I can not believe the negative reviews. My boyfriend and I had an absolutely wonderful dinner. We can not wait to return!!! We made a little get away out of it. We stayed at the nearby Westin and walked down for dinner. I read the reviews on metromix quite often, but I have never been inspired to write my own until now. I am disappointed that others did not love it as much as we did.

If you talk the talk...

Real disappointment. Went there with my family for a nice night out. Was told that since they were having a 1x month tasting in another room "all the best servers were there, sorry". Food was so so but not cheap. Room is nice looking bur really, really LOUD. When I discussed my disappointment to the manager, I got a concerned look and assuranced that everything would get straightened out. no follow-through.

I don't care that Tramanto was chef at TRU. Big deal. Put your ego on the back table and get to work making this reaturant work or the name hung all over the place (3 Restaurants at the location called Tramanto) won't be worth more than the stucco its painted on.

Excellent wine selection, food was superb, excellent service

I have been to Osteria three times and each visit was excellent. The service is top notch, the wine is terrific, I enjoyed many of items on the menu since I tatsted my wifes dish as well. The atmosphere is energetic and yes a bit loud but the beautiful high ceilings are the culprit. I will definitely return to Osteria it is well worth the price.

We would have gotten better service and reasonably priced food at Olive Garden
By Martha from palatine, February 24, 2008

This was my choice for my birthday dinner, and it was very disappointing. It was so noisy we had to scream to be heard. The food was very average, skimpy, and overpriced. There were no reasonably priced wines on the extensive list. We order individual glasses of red wine, and we were told by the waiter that the wine would be much warmer than the recommended 55 degrees. If we wanted the better temperature, we would have to buy a bottle. We had the apple that is so highly rated. I make an apple dumpling that is tastier, and a better size portion. My family will not be coming back here. We will stick with the Olive Garden. We felt like we had been ripped off at Tramanto's restaurant.

Too Loud
By Roseann DeMarco from Edison Park, February 11, 2008

Overall rating:

Beautiful restaurant, good service, good food....but too loud. Even though we were a small table of 4, we had to talk very loud in order to be heard. The waiter also had to repeat things several times. Too bad, hopefully they've learned from their mistakes and will do things differently at the Rosemont location.

Too loud to enjoy
By Valerie from North Shore, February 3, 2008

The waitstaff at Osteria was very attentive and the wine we ordered was excellent, nothing else was worth returning for. The food was mediocre and the atmosphere too noisy - we could not hear each other at our table for four. The high brick ceiling may be attractive but not conducive to table conversations. In addition there was loud terrible hip-hop music playing in the background. Not at all appropriate for an otherwise elegant Italian restaurant. Their cocktails are stingy too.

Christmas Day
By Lee from Edgewater, December 26, 2007

Overall rating:

While our food was good when we were there on Christmas Day, it certainly did not come close to what we expected from a service standpoint for Tramanto/Gand. First, why no coat check? People were tripping over our coats. Our server was good, but it was hard to get dirty plates removed and we have to ask twice for silverware. Clearly the servers/bussers didn't look "crisp", and again, not great attention to detail. While we are glad we had a chance to try the restaurant, we would not go back. Who is in charge of the dining room?

horrible service

I went to Osteria for my girlfriend's mother's birthday. We made reservations ahead of time and notified the hostess of the birthday. We ordered several drinks only to have the waitress rudely half fill the drinks. she did not detail the menu or even come back to see if we wanted more drinks. horrible service. the bus boys were more attentive. overall, pretentious area and food was mediocre and overpriced.

Tramonto and Gand should be ashamed!
By Justice Jules from Bucktown, October 28, 2007

Overall rating:

We went for my in-laws' 40th anniversary with a party of 6 and were all disapointed. Service was awful and we could barely hear each other across the table. Lasagna was old and dried out, Italian chopped salad was shredded iceburg, and desserts were all short-cuts and gimicky. Overall it looks like the Lettuce Entertain You formula gone bad.

Lovely experience! Definitely a city vibe. Food was fantastic and plentiful. Sommelier was a nice touch - good recommendation. Pappadelle with meat sauce was nice and hearty; husband had ossobucco and loved it. Fried calamari for appetizer - light and crispy, lemon aioli sauce was a nice change from plain old marinara. Definitely will go back and also can't wait to try the sushi bar and steakhouse. Highly recommend it.
