Nella Grassano, a Naples native and former pizza-maker-in-chief at Ravenswood’s much-loved Spacca Napoli, her husband, Frank Grassano, and Scott Harris of Mia Francesca already are building on the promise of their first outpost of Nella Pizzeria Napoletana, which opened in November in Lincoln Park. But with this branch of the serious Naples-style brick-oven pizza concept, slated to open in February 2010, they're on real Italian turf along Taylor Street in Little Italy. Expect authentic pizzas baked in an oven made with volcanic brick imported directly from Mt. Vesuvius and constructed by a team of experts flown in from Naples. Gourmet salads and appetizers will round out the pizza-heavy menu. A wine bar is also in the works.
