WE wne to Lucia Ristorante almost a year ago and it was an enjoyable experience. We had friends from out of town and they enjoyed the authentic casual atmospher and the food was good. It has been a while since we have been there, but we are going back this week-end and I can't wait!

Money is tight, don't spend yours here. I went with a group of nine celebrating a special occasion, and the owner/manager booked our table 1.5 hours after our reservation, then lied to the other group, stating that three people in our party had arrived over an hour late (ONE person arrived while we were finishing our appetizers, ordered promptly and received her entrée with the rest of us), that we refused to leave, and that they should come speak with us if they wanted to be seated anytime soon. The food was good although not great, and our server was courteous and apologetic about the double booking. When I approached the manager on the way out, he shrugged his shoulders and said, "Eh, what can ya do..." Here's what I can do. I can spend my money elsewhere and hope others do as well. Sure, there are worse things in life than bad service... but why support it when there are so many alternatives?

I went here with a group of 10 for a friends birthday. I made a reservation in advance and called to confirm. They were extremely accommodating of our group never making us feel rushed. We stayed drinking our wine until almost 10:30 and our waitress happily waiting. The food price is excellent and it was delicious. Salads were great too. It's a cozy little place and a true gem. It's the only BYOB Italian I know of...and I'm definitely going back!

My party and I waited in the non-waiting area (think: single door, no seats, in server traffic) for over 45 minutes despite having a reservation.
I can get good Italian at a million places in this city -- I'll go back to the ones that know how to provide good service, and this place is NOT one of them.

I'm surprised that people gave Lucia's such a bad rating because of their service. We had a group of at least ten girls and the service was great! Even if it had not been, the food would have made up for it. I had the angel hair pasta which was amazing. My friends all commented on how great their meals were too. Can't wait to go back.

The food was reasonably priced and it's BYOB which is always a good thing in my book. Unfortunately, the service was terrible. We were a party of 7 and apparently 2 hours is far too long to be in the restaurant. We ordered apps, entrees, desserts, coffees, but had to ask the waiter to order each course. He took our napkins as soon as we were done with entrees and dropped the bill with the desserts. It was a total bust. Never one time asked us if we needed anything else, inquired as to how anything was, or seemed interested in having us as a table. As we were finishing up I listened to the manager chastise him for not getting us (and another 6 person party) out fast enough. I'm sorry to say, I won't be back.

The surroundings were kind of strange, but once we got settled in, the service was good and the food wasnt bad. Not the best Italian in Bucktown or Chicago though.

5/2/08: Met some friends for dinner. The food was good but not good enough to overlook the service. We had to ask on two separate occasions to have wine bottles opened. We also had to ask to place our order. The service was leisurely as one diner put it and as the wine bottles emptied, we were ok with that.
We were seated by the door to the patio which was propped open. The breeze was too much for half our table so we shut the door. A man came over and propped open the door. Didn't ask anyone as to why it might have been closed. A diner from another table came over and shut the door. The man came back and propped it open again. When the breeze blew our menus/napkins off the table, the waitress shut the door.
When the man came back again I said half joking "Enough with the door. Please,it's too much wind". Apparently, he didn't like that because he looked at me and the table and said "I need this table for 9pm". We were shocked. We sat down at 7:15 and it was now 8:55. The funny thing was we didn't even have our check.
When the waitress did finally show up with the check, we asked her who the man was and, not surprisingly, she said it was the owner. With all the restaurants in Chicago, there are a multitude of choices to spend your money and Lucia will not be a choice for me. His behaviour was rude and completely uncalled for.

I went on a Friday night with a group of 6 girls; we were seated right away (had made a reservation) and over the next couple of hours were treated to a great meal, great service, and great atmosphere. We all ordered different things and all loved everything! Our server was very patient with us, did not rush us at all (even though we took our sweet time..). Can't wait to go back again! Oh and the BYOB is a huge plus!

My wife and I went to Lucia for the first time on April 3. The food was excellent. I had the buccatini, which had a fabulous sauce. My wife's dish (sorry, I forgot what she had) was excellent as well. The minestrone was good, but needs a little more seasoning. I liked the baked clams a lot. Service was attentive and very friendly. I love that it's BYOB, however their glassware needs help. That's the case with most BYO restaurants however, so I've started bringing my own stemware. If I lived in the area, I would go to this place every week.
