I have now been to La Scarola three times and each time it gets better and better. Although there is typically a wait, the service is wonderful, glasses of wine on the house are common to make the wait a bit more tolerable. The food is delicious - from the appetisers (spicy shrimp dish and oysters) to the eggplant and pasta dishes, I highly recommend this place for a fun date night or a group of friends!

Though my friend and I made RSVP, they had us wait for over half an hour. The guy at restaurant told us that we had to wait and accused us for coming late, though we arrived on time. And he kept this arrogant attitude until we were fed up and left. If you expect good time and dinner over weekend, do not go there. Terrible customer service from the beginning.

We liked all the 4 different entrees our group had. And the house wines were a good value. Our only "complaint" has to do with the portioins which are huge. None of us finished. Do not miss the canoli.

In my opinion Las Scarola ranks up there as one of the top Italian restaurants in Chicago. The food was perfection: Escarole soup, seafood risotto, chicken marsala! Very well prepared dishes & excellent service, too. A 10!

First off, don't make a reservation and plan to be out of there at a certain time. We waited for 10 minutes to be seated after a drink at the bar. Once seated we were treated like the rockstars that we are (even though we're not!). Everything on the menu looked good. The owner and staff would bring us more drinks as soon as we were running low. The food was phenomenal. Best italian I've had in a long time. Dessert came as well as shots of Grand Marnier from the owner which he took with us. He sat down and really explained his method to his madness and gave us a history on his restaurant and how it became so popular. He really knows how to interact with his guests in more ways than one. Don't expect a quiet intimate place, it's busy and evrybody's flying back and forth but worth it. I recommended it to various people and they love it just as much as i did.

The food is good, BUT..I was with a group of four on a Sunday night. No one was waiting for our table but we were asked to leave at 830. I guess they wanted our table in case some walked in or they just wanted to be ready to go home. I'll give another try but if the service isn't any better I won't return.

We decided to leave because the service was terrible. When we arrived, I gave the host my name and reservation information. He proceeded to tell me that he didn't have my reservations, even though I had called days before. When I told him that I had made reservations, he said "are you calling me a liar"? I should have walked out then, but we'd heard good things about the food. My group was told to wait 20 minutes in the bar next door. This seems to be common, because there were several people also at the bar waiting. When we went back to check on our table after 30 minutes of waiting, the host sent us back to the bar for "a few more minutes". We waited 10 more minutes and then decided that the food couldn't possibly be worth being treated like we were. We left and went to Trattoria Isabella which is close by. The food is great and the service is awesome there. Avoid La Scarola!

Each and every time I dine at La Scarola I LOVE it! Whenever I have people visiting from out of town I make it a point to take them to La Scarola. Every meal I have had here has been delicious. The portions are large and the price is reasonable. Definitely a great date spot! I recommend the Shrimp Armani appetizer and the Pasta a la Vodka.

Busy but low key type busy place, food is not spectacular but is still very good, though i can think of better for less money.
Waitstaff was good with suggestions and the owner gave us free tequilla shots for dessert, food took a while, but came out as good as could be expected with a place with such succulent aroma as la scarola.
Would reccomend but beware of big crowds on any givin day, this place is popular

There are far more superior Italian resturants in the city. After looking forward to going here for months, we were disappointed from the very start. The Fried zuchinni was bland and tasted like burned eggs! I had the Veal Chop Alla Gabe which was recommended (By the way one of the highest priced items on the menu). The flavorless pounded flat veal chop was then placed over a bed of dried out tasteless diced potatoes. My fiance had the Italian sausage gnocchi which too was bland and was much to be desired.
