This Lincoln Park restaurant and "salumeria" from the team behind Italian spot La Trattoria Del Merlo and the more upscale Merlo on Maple is painted and decorated to resemble a typical Bolognese home. The rustic Italian menu focuses on made-from-scratch pasta and ragu-style sauces, with selections such as ricotta-filled tortelloni with porcini, pappardelle with pheasant ragu and bow-tie pasta with duck ragu. Imported cheeses and cured meats are also specialties, as are Italian desserts such as torta della nonna (cake with cream and pinenut filling, garnished with a wild berry sauce). The salumeria, basically a gourmet specialty store, sells a variety of cured meats and cheeses, fresh hand-made pastas and house-made sauces for carryout. The pastas and sauces are straight off the restaurant menu, so it's a convenient (and less expensive) way to recreate your favorite meals at home.
