La Madia: User Reviews
We liked this place very much. The food was teriffic. The wine very reasonable. We were there for our daughter's birthday and declined desert. The server, however, brought us some cookies, saying even though we didn't want desert "Here is a birthday treat." However, $4 appeared on our tab for the cookies! Very poor in our minds.

second visit after a year, will never visit this restaurant again. The pizza that i ordered was not cooked to the way it was ordered. it was very well done. It tasted like it was left over from days, so dry. after 15 min we were finally told that the wine we've ordered was not availble that night. this place a year ago was great, we were greatly disappointed !

La Madia was an okay place to go for dinner. I really enjoyed the ambiance and thought the waitstaff was friendly and attentive. However, the pizza wasnt the greatest. We tried the pepperoni and it was extremely greasy for a thin crust pizza. My date had mentioned that he had trouble getting a reservation when calling that morning and the person on the other line wasnt the nicest.
overall it was an okay experience but I'm not sure i'll be going back for seconds soon.

It's my new favorite spot in Chicago!! I was lucky enough to sit down and have a tasting menu with the head chef and the owner and I was NOT let down. Everything was delicious- I especially like the buffalo mozzarella salad. Also thoroughly enjoyed all the pizzas I tasted- I think the plain old pepperoni was my favorite :)
I've lunched here a few times since and cannot find a more delicious deal- $15 for an appetizer + a pizza... enough food to fill 2 people to the brim!
Great food... great price... smiling service... and I especially love the fireplace! Fabulous spot!

We stumbled into this restaurant once after the nearby eateries were unavailable, and we had a lovely dinner. We were seated at a counter-top due to no available tables, and the service on our first visit was a bit slow. Everything else about the evening was great--fresh and flavorful appetizers, mouth-watering pizza, even the coffee was great! A good value for the area. We have been back several times and recommend La Madia often.

(Second time here) Bad reception even though it was way before the dinner rush. When my pizza did come out it was dry and tasteless, If this place is a representative of the italian Pizza I really dont get it. At the opening was there an italian chef out of this world, now the music is different, i mean ( no music at all talking about food !).The batender was the only saving grace of this "pizza" . Is there any manager ? Save your time and money, go somewhere else.

I do not recommend this pizzaria at all. the service was incredibly slow. When tables left, the waiter would wander by and pick up a glass or two and then leave the rest, service in this restaurant has always been decent for me, but now is a different story, pizza is not the same anymore, is a waste of time and money

I had been to La Madia earlier this summer and sat on the patio - we had a nice time but wasn't overwelmed. I recently went back and had an absolutely great experience. We were met at the door by the chef who invited us to join the recently launched Tuesday night wine tasting - it was fabulous - great wines and food to match. We then went on to our dinner and the artichoke pizza is not to be missed. Although I'm a huge fan of truffle oil - we did find the pepperoni pizza a little too greasy for our tastes. We didn't order the pizza fondue but had food envy when we spotted the table next to us with it. Definitely a good place to go for a relaxed, enjoyable evening out.

I wanted to hate this place because I thought it was going to be trendy and lame. I was wrong. The pizza is completely legit. The pie with squash and burata is my favorite, followed closely by the classic margherita. The pizza with taleggio and grapes was another winner. The wine list is good; not great values, but great selections. I would definitely go back.

Went into La Madia last week for an early dinner. Although we didn't have reservations, we were seated promptly. It took the server close to 8 minutes to even realize we were there. I could see all of the servers in the kitchen talking, so I'm not sure if they were having a meeting or just plain oblivious to the fact that they were at work. We ordered the Arugula salad for an appetizer and it was fresh and delicious. However, that's were the good food ended. I ordered the mushroom pizza and my friend tried the triple pepperoni. Both pizza's were cold and soggy and the pepperoni was so greasy it looked disgusting. Just because you're using truffle oil on something doesn't mean it's going to be good. The server was inattentive and acted as if he had something better to do than to serve us. Perhaps it's because we didn't order wine or he just hates his job. The management, when not on the phone, even gave a server a talking to in the middle of the restaurant. Very unprofessional. I don't see any reason to go back
