One of the best Italian restaurants in the city. I had the Chicken Parmesan and it was the best chicken I have ever had. The food is flavorful, the portions are very generous and the place is cozy; feels like home. Highly recommend it.

The food was very sub-par....

The food was very sub-par. Nothing special, not worth the trip to Little Italy. I was disappointed after hearing great things about the place on Check, Please! The service was also not great. We had to go out of our way to get the host's attention when we got there, and not because he was busy. He just didn't seem to concerned about waiting on us.

This might be the best...

This might be the best Italian food in the city. From Rosalee the tough yet charming southside server, to the delicious pasta and veal- we had a great experience here. I have been all over and worked for the Francesca restaurants...this place has their food beat (the two chefs here are Italian) and it is much more affordable (manicotti $10/veal vesuvio $16).

We went with a group of six. We started with the antipasta salad- order 1 for every 2 people. It was delicious, although I usually don't care for any type blue cheese. The muusels were also good. Everyone enjoyed their meal, the food was plentiful. The favorite, though, was the osso bucco. My husband even ate the marrow. On the down side, the waitress was a bit unfriendly and kept disappearing until I spoke to the host that we needed more water, a second bottle of wine, and we wanted to order dinner. After that, she was much better. Also, they need more choices in the less expensive wine category.
Overall, the food was great and the atmosphere fun.

Despite the presence of many...

Despite the presence of many fantastic Italian restaurants within a block or two, Il Vicinato did not pick up any of the high quality of neighboring "little Italy" restaurants on Oakley Avenue. Starting with stale bread, to overpriced twist-top wine, to mediocre pasta and unhelpful service, Il Vicinato gave me no reason to return.
