This is the original location of Home Run, which dates back to 1923, when the Grittani family gave the then-newly-purchased tavern its name after the winning run from a neighborhood baseball game shattered the tavern's front window. In 1947, Mary Grittani and her son-in-law, Nick Perrino, formed a partnership and together developed the recipe for the pizza. Since then, an armload of pizzerias has popped up all over the city and suburbs. Best known for saucy thin crust pies, the menu also lists pastas, salads and sandwiches. Frozen pizzas are available in most Chicago area grocery stores.
