Francesca's on Taylor

Neighborhood: Little Italy/University Village
1400 W. Taylor St.

Chicago, IL 60607

Part of the popular chain of Francesca restaurants that began in 1992 with the original Mia Francesca in Lake View, the menu here features the same generous portions of Northern Italian food with dishes from Rome and the surrounding areas of Tuscany, Umbria and Lazio. The menu changes daily to utilize seasonal ingredients, and there are additional off-the-menu specials. Recent appetizer offerings included the carpaccio arugula, a platter of thinly sliced raw sirloin with capers, tomatoes, mushrooms, arugula, olive oil and Parmesan cheese. There are a handful of thin crust pizzas to choose from, with options like the quattro formaggi with mozzarella, mascarpone, blue and Swiss cheeses. Pasta selections may include the linguini frutti del mare, with scallops, clams, calamari and mussels in a spicy marinara sauce. Entrees might include the crispy roast chicken Romana, with a lemon rosemary sauce, shallots and garlic. The reasonably priced wine list features both American and Italian choices with several by the glass options.
