This place is fantastic

I have been coming here for years and have yet to be let down. It has the look and feel of an independent restaurant in the city (but the food might be better here). It is on the smaller side but has a great bar that takes up almost half the room for whenever there's been a wait. I often wonder if they should remove it in lieu of more seats, but then I think I'd miss it.

They have a unique menu and you can tell they use top quality ingredients. I often get pasta or pizzas but their Giambotta (sp?) and fish specials are usually pretty awesome. They have offerings like rack of lamb to which are better than most steak houses.

Overall, this place is very reasonably priced, has good service and great food.

Huge Disappointment

This place came highly recommended so we went there on a Friday night. The place is very small and cramped which can be quaint and homey, if that's your style. Our server was very nice but pretty quiet and basic in his technique. I had an awesome Vodka Tonic and my husband had a wonderful red wine.

Our salads were good, not great, the balasamic house salad dressing was a bit sour but okay. However, the entrees were disgusting. My lasagna was a lukewarm brick of compacted ricotta, overcooked, dried out noodles. The thinnest layer of mozarella on top. Now picture this swimming in marinara/pizza sauce. I hadn't eaten all day and still couldn't choke it down. My husband had scallops which were good accompanied with linguine in a watery garlic wine sauce, which was not so good. This meal had absolutely no taste. Not a garlic clove was used in preparing this meal. My husband said the school lunch program lasagna was better.

Spend the gas money and make the trip to a good italian restaurant in Chicago like Bachannalia. Even the Portillos baked penne is better than this place.

Best Italian Restaurant in/around Chicago

They have a knockout good red sauce in addition to many dishes (i.e. Rack of Veal, Atlantic Cod Putanesca) that happily deviate from other restaurants' sometimes boring Italian-American standard fare. Nice dining room with a full bar, good/inexpensive wine list and outdoor seating in the warmer months. Also, their thin crust pizza is the best (although I've never tried the other ones).
