Co-owner Daniel Lambert says Caponie's boasts the largest wood-burning pizza oven in Chicago. It's a style of pizza-making that reflects the heritage of Naples. 'Peoplecome in here from Italy who can't speak English, say the pizza's better than Italy,' Lambert says proudly. The restaurant's name has drawn flak from some Italian-American publications in Chicago, but Lambert says he and co-owner Anthony DiBalsamo are simply trying to reflect the Italian experience in this country. There are framed photos and articles of Al Capone on the walls, but they're accompanied by pictures of John Travolta, Al Pacino, Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra, as well as photos of the owners' Italian ancestors. 'If we were trying to go 'all gangster,' we'd have Tommy guns on the wall,' Lambert said.
