Be careful with the prices

This place has it's menu written up on a chalk board and from what I was just told by the staff/owner was that they don't update the prices on the board. So today I questioned the price of the item I ordered and was told that they don't update their board and that the price of item was in fact 30 cents higher than listed on the board. That might be why they don't give you a receipt with your order either.

A Chicago gem

In this most unassuming of spaces you will find Italian home cooking that is so authentic it defies the category. Imagine yourself going to the home of an Italian friend's aunt and having placed before you a selection of made-to-order sandwiches: meatballs, grilled vegetables, mozzarella and tomato, lemon chicken; plus freshly made pasta fagioli and chicken soups and several other entrees, all made from the best ingredients the proprietors can provide. They used to have a branch in Hinsdale a few years ago, near where I was working, and I'd try to have lunch there as many time a week as I could. They only operate the Van Buren location now, which is out of the way for me, but if you are in the neighborhood and don't mind the place's idiosyncratic ambiance, be sure to try it. The only thing better would be to have an Italian aunt who likes to cook for you. Guaranteed you will leave with a good taste in your mouth.

unfortunately it's lunch-only. i started with with a cup (which is really a bowl) of the wonderful, meaty chili. And, i was in luck as there was some italian beef left. i savored the numerous bits of beef--it was nearly the bottom of the pan. Because it was nearly finished, the gravy was saltier than usual, but that also meant all the flavors were more intense. Claudie, the "C," does a superb job of trimming the fat from the beef before cooking. And, the thinly sliced fresh-fried cottaqe/home fries-yum! i could go on--the eggplant parm--the many sandwiches--the meatballs

The food tastes really good here. It takes a while to prepare, but it just has such a good taste. I go there for lunch often.
