2 of us went to this place on a Weds night, I'd heard great things about it, saw the recommendation on metromix for a great byob, etc. All of these factors tend to establish high expectations, yes. However, it was just bad. We were one of only about 4 tables seated in the whole place. We ordered the Caprese, which was great. Both of us ordered pizzas, each had proscuitto as one of the ingredients. The pizzas came out completely covered in proscuitto, it was added after the pizza cooked. The proscuitto was horribly salty and had zero fat, making us wonder if it was really proscuitto. The proscuitto had to be removed to even make out way to a 2nd piece. The sauce was mediocre and lacked much flavor. Overall, these pizzas were really middle-of-the-road, a far cry from the hype. I ate less than half of the pizza before surrendering. We were also visited by both (what I'm guessing was) an owner or manager and the hostess, 2 times each to see how things were going.. it was all a bit much. Sorry to say, I would not go back.

We live downtown and last night was my third time their. Dude, I have been to Italy and sauces are just as rich as theirs. Although, in Italy they claim it has to do with their climate and fertile soil. So how does Chicago claim it. I think by having great food period. They need a nice wine list though or even some great beers to have with a great meal. I don't like byob's. It does not make sense bringing food or drinks into a restaurant...

We had grilled calamari to start. I ordered the Quatro Stagioni and my husband the Margarita. Delish. Great, friendly service. Very attentive staff, almost too attentive. You can barely finish a sentence before someone is checking on you. Lots of attention to detail, and it's much appreciated!
Don't forget it's BYOB!
Report This ReviewNot just a great addition to the Andersonville neighborhood -- a terrific newcomer to the city's casual Italian dining scene. Every wonderful element of the Italian trattoria tradition is in play here: Antica Pizzeria offers guests a warm welcome and a menu of solid, beautifully executed casual fare served by a friendly, knowledgeable staff in a sweet room. The calamari alla griglia transported me back to Sicily, and the pizza and pasta were equally thrilling. Suffice it to say that Signore Rapidsarda is making the months between our annual trips to Italia considerably easier to bear, and we are very thankful!
Report This ReviewAmong the many reasons we frequently go to Italy is the food--particularly trattoria food. Authentic replications of a great Italian trat are tricker than you think, but Antica Pizzeria nails it ... nails it like no other I've eaten in stateside. I could recommend items from the wide variety of offernings i've sampled there, but I think it's just best to presume that everything on the menu is worth a try.
