Casual but upscale food

Pre-theater dining on the wing. What a surprise! The $29 meal deal was excellent. The many gelato flavors available was a pleaseant end. Very attentive staff. Will be going back before many theater evenings downtown.

I loved thie place! Outside patio was awesome, my server was so friendly and helpful, even gave me some free gelato at the end of my meal.....pizza and pasta were my favorite that I have eaten in chicago. I am not a deep dish pizza fan, I am originally from NYC, so the pizza was a hugh hit for me. Can't wait to return!

Loved the food!

I had a really great experience at A Mano and would certainly recommend it. Our server was very attentive and friendly and the food was amazing. It's definitely not what you expect from your typical Italian restaurant, and it's Wonderful!! They have this gorgonzola pizza that's topped with grapes & walnuts, I never would have thought to put that on a pizza, but it's my new fave, great flavor combination! The pinot nero braised rabbit gnocchi was delicious, salumi was excellent, and the house-made gelato has got to be the best I've tasted. I was especially impressed with the interesting flavors to chose from, such as mascarpone (very good). I liked the unpretentious, laid-back-sophisticated atmosphere. It's a great spot for dining with a group of friends or family, though I wouldn't prefer it for a romantic night out. I'll be back....

We didn't even want Italian!
By I'mhungry from bucktown, July 21, 2008

We set out on a Saturday night looking for something to eat, no reservations, no ideas we were just going to wander around until we found something appealing. When we read the menu at A Mano we thought it sounded really good but we thought we "really don't want Italian," but lets go in and have a drink and decide. While at the bar we saw some amazing looking food come out of the open kitchen and the decision to eat Italian was made.
Start with Salumi and Antipasto, you can mix and match them, great antipasto was the Artichokes and the Salumi was sliced paper thin but the portion was very plentiful. We saw a pizza while at the bar and asked the server to send his favorite- it was the Gorgonzola and Grapes, so good I thought I would die, seriously, I could easily have eaten the whole thing. We also shared the Gnocchi and the Ravioli for our entrees and I must say while the portions are smallish they were completely satisfying and flavorful. We didn't look at the wines by the bottle but if they are as good as the wines by the glass we ordered you are in for a treat. Dessert- One Word GELATO, nuff said.
The service was good, not great, our server seemed to have too much to do, but he was very friendly and for me that is most important.

Not Recommended at All

I have always loved Bin 36. Great food, great wine, great service. Not sure why the same can't be repeated here. I went there with lunch with a friend and sat outside. Was handed a wine menu and after I had ordered was told they don't have an outdoor liquor license yet. Second, waiter was practically non-exsistant which was odd, because we were one of 6 tables. Lunch buffet offered bit sized pieces of food that was either too bland or over salted, and not very creative. Ceasar salad and foccia bread at an Italian Bistro, original. We did see our waiter when he delivered our check before the desert we ordered was served, not good. But what was the most fun was being repremanded by the manager for going through an unlocked door to the patio by my table, apparently you can only use the one that is by the entrance (this is my fault because I failed to see the invisible sign dictating what door to use). I will definitely be recommending other places that have better service and attitude towards customers.

The pizza is almost as strong as the AC
By ego from suburbs, June 7, 2008

The ambiance would be really good if it weren't for the air conditioning. It was BLASTING. My party had to move because of it, so that was no problem since there were only two other occupied tables there.
The pizza was great. The meats are great too. The bolognese sauce was executed well, but it just didn't taste good to me, there was just some weird flavoring to it, but the rest of my table liked it. The seafood pasta was great.
If you care about food more than ambiance then this is a great place.

Disappointment
By Jules from Deerfield, May 12, 2008

What a disappointment! We love to check out all the new restaurants and this time I would have been better staying home. The restuarant had no buzz and was half empty on a Saturday night - - - bad sign. The service was fine but I have never had such bad pasta. How can they screw up spaghetti and meatballs??? Well, they did! Start out with cold meatballs and top them with thick spaghetti and a smidge of sauce that has no flavor. Don't waste your time!

Very disappointing

Went to this place with two family members last night with high hopes. A new italian restaurant is always something exciting. From the time we walked in, we were disappointed. The tables are very close to each other. The chairs are very uncomfortable. The antipasti is good but how hard can that be to do. We ordered a chicken, lasagna, and rabbit gnocchi entrees. All were tasteless and bland. The chicken was very dry. The lasagna was okay but the piece was so small and sides are additional. The rabbit gnocchi looked like something my dog could have put together. Will definetely not go back. Spread the word!

Fresh menu and great food
By Hyperion from Highland Park, March 14, 2008

I have eaten at A Mano on several occasions and return because of the interesting menu and great food. Service is just okay. Their crudo is fresh tasting and the sauces are original and refreshing. Some of the salumi are terrific. I recommend the fennel and culatello. At lunch I usually go for the buffet and when available a glass of the D & S wine. At dinner, I think the fried soup is terrific, the margareita pizza is one of the best in the city. I like that it is crisp and doesn't bend when I pick it up like at other restaurants where it just sags at the end. The whole fish and pork chop are excellent. The bow-tie pasta with the boar meat is good as is the pasta with the bread meatballs. It is robustly flavored and I enjoy that the chef doesn't dumb down the spice. Their gelato is out of this world. I think that it is fairly priced. We had our company party in the lounge area behind the bar. We had over 100 people. The food was great and the fact that we could watch the kitchen turning out food, making pasta, etc. was pretty interesting.

Poor Food - Waste of your money.

I went to this restaurant as a first timer to find the food over priced and not tasty. If the service was poor and the food was good then I would continue to return. The servers are friendly but seem limited in their knowledge of food and beverage. I reccommend an alternative restaurant.
