Best Italian downtown!
By chitownlea from Bucktown, September 2, 2009

I have had the pleasure of eating at 312 Chicago for both lunch and dinner and I have had the best experiences. The food is amazing and I can't rave enough about the fish and pasta dishes. They also make their own gelato and sorbet which is the perfect end to a nice lunch if you don't want to feel overly full the rest of the day. I am planning on going back soon and bring my foodie friends. I can't wait to try everything else on the menu! 312 Chicago outshines any other Italian restaurant in that area and I am now a loyal customer.

Overrated!!

We booked our reservation 5 weeks in advance and when we arrived, the only table they would give us was a booth beside the front door. We felt like we were in a cheap diner. The kitchen was right behind us and the front door was on the other side of the booth. It was a windy, cold, rainy night and we felt the wind every time the door opened. We requested another table and the girl at the desk abruptly told us nothing else was available. It totally ruined our dining experience. Our waitress spoke softly and it was hard to understand her in the noisy atmosphere although she provided attentive service. The food was prepared nicely, but we would not recommend this restaurant to anyone in the future. If you must go, be SURE you tell the reservationist that you MUST be seated upstairs. Otherwise, have a back-up reservation someplace else.

Yum!

After reading a few of the other reviews I wasn't sure I wanted to go here for dinner.
So glad I did. The service was impeccable and the food was wonderful, fresh, simple Italian fare. My husband and I split the flatbread and a ceasar salad which was the perfect starter. The ceasar was honeslty the best I've ever had (and I've had a ton). My husband had a huge steak and I had the goat cheese ravioli which I'm still thinking about. Not sure why others were dissapointed with the portions. They were perfect and I didn't leave feeling like a stuffed pig. The prices were fair and par for the course for a nice dinner in the city. If you want gluttonous portions at cheap prices go to Maggianos or some suburban chain. If you want real food with great service and ambiance, go to 312. I'm certainly going back.

Great post Phantom of the Opera restuarant

We were able to get in without a reservation right after the 2pm Phantom of the Opera. The view was great from the 2nd floor. We had the roasted duck and sea bass. Both were delicious. The service was great.

Food was actually delicious but was much too small a portion to make it worth the price paid. Husband ordered the chicken breast and it came out as part of what musth have been a cornish hen (had 2 legs - and was smaller than a fist). He liked it but was expecting just a chicken breast (a much larger chicken breast). I agree with previous reviewer who stated their server was apathetic - she did her job and nothing more - without any kind of interaction with our table except to push more drinks.

I am still telling people...

I am still telling people about the awful experience of eating at 312 months ago. Extremely overpriced and piddly amount of food. I was hungrier than I was before I got there. Awful.

Lovely restaurant with delicious food. I recommend the meatballs and gnocchi. The desserts were wonderful, and beautifully presented. What a way to end a great meal!

Decent atmosphere, but horribly overpriced...
By neighbor from south loop, IL, January 24, 2007

Decent atmosphere, but horribly overpriced and lousy service as well. Recently dined here for lunch and received the wrong food, and eventually had to gnaw my way through a disgusting, fatty steak sandwich. Terrible all around.

The staff couldn't be more...
By Shelley from Chicago, IL, December 15, 2006

The staff couldn't be more rude. They were so unhelpful and apathetic. I will never go here again. I asked to pick up some sandwiches for a party I was having, and they put zero effort into helping me. It's a shame that they obviously don't want business.
