Best Tapas in City: Well-kept secret
By wakbrdr4 from Lincoln Park, September 26, 2009

Overall rating:

This is for sure my personal favorite for Tapas in the Chicago. The only place that comes close is Cafe Ba Ba Reeba but they are entirely different experiences. Twist is a cozy little restaurant and Ba Ba Reeba is a commercial production. The lower rating on here is completely shocking to me as I have been here many times and it continually delivers. The menu is adventurous yet has the necessary tapas staples. The jalapeno gnocchi, for instance, is incredible. The spicy potatoes pack a real punch. This is the perfect place to take a small group of friends and surprise them on a very well-kept secret in the city.

Excellent pre-/post- spot!

I have found myself at Twist numerous times before or after Cubs games and before seeing bands at the Vic. There are some must-have menu items that make it difficult to branch out! They include the jalapeno gnocchi, bacon-wrapped dates, and beef tenderloin with blue cheese. And wash it all down with sangria.

Good food but there could have been better service

I went to Twist for my birthday and it was only an okay experience. I wanted to sit outside but there were no tables open so we had to sit inside for a moment. Before we even ordered a table outside became available so we asked to sit outside. The manager did not have a problem with it but the waitress seemed a little annoyed. We ordered and the food came out quickly. My favorite dish was the bacon wrapped dates and one other thing that we ordered that i would not order again was the caprese salad, there was only 3 pieces of mozz cheese with a couple of tomatos, not worth the value. I used a restaurant.com coupon and the waitress once again seemed ticked off about that and she even said something to the other waitress and it was apparent because the other waitress looked over at me when our waitress whispered to her. Overall it was an okay experience and i would consider going back if the waitresses were more courteous.

We tried Twist because we had a gift certificate and weren’t really sure what to expect. Service was good, the atmosphere is nice and the food was excellent! They saffron paella was our favorite and best paella we’ve had in the city! Twist is much better than other tapas restaurants in the area and overall, it exceeded our expectations!

Poor service and bad management ruined meal
By Mashley from Lincoln Square, October 2, 2008

I love tapas and was very excited to try Twist (it came highly recommended from friends). We went on a Saturday and it was fairly busy. We were seated promptly, but soon forgotten about. We (a group of 4) ordered drinks and then our tapas. The food trickled out and then just stopped. We had ordered about 3 tapas per person and after 45 minutes had only received about 4. We noticed that the table right next to us seemed to be getting everything we had ordered. We asked the waitress when we would expect the rest of our food and she said it would be a little longer. We then asked why the people next to us had gotten thier entire order (they were seated 30-45 minutes after our group) all at once and we were still waiting on the majority of our meal. She had no answer and just walked away. 2-3 more tapas came out and we never saw our waitress again. We needed to leave and had to go find her to get our check. Figuring she would have removed the tapas that were never served to us, we were shocked to see our bill included these items. We asked her to have the items removed and she said she needed a manager. The manager came to our table and essentially treated us as if we were trying to scam free food. It was a very frustrating experience and the unfortunate part is that the food and sangria were actually pretty good. The dining experience was ruined due to poor wait staff and bad management. I gave the food 4 stars, but the poor service will keep me from ever going back.

Great food. Good service. But...

Twist serves some of the best tapas I've ever had. Our favorites were the paella, the pistachio encrusted tilapia, the goat cheese with pesto toast points. Excellente! Service was prompt, helpfull and courteous. Fresh dishes appeared at our table faster than you could say "Spanish omelet". However, Twist is also one of the tiniest restaurants I've ever been to, and - packed to its limits. So, go there for food, not for ambiance. And expect to be having dinner with 20 other people you don't know, all sitting in a row, with hardly enough space inbetween for a Razr phone. And, practice your sign language skills because you'll heard everyone else's conversation, but not your own.

Have been to Twist 3 times and each time I have loved each and every dish that I have ordered. Service is always great and I love the variety of food they serve. We sat at the bar this past Saturday and enjoyed watching the chef in action. Twist continues to be one of my favorite restaurants in the city.

Small but Satisfying
By Mel from Old Town, April 19, 2008

Went to Twist last night with five of my girlfriends. Overall I would say this is one of the better tapas restaurants in the city. The food combined great flavors and wasn't as greasy as other tapas places I've eaten before. Everything we ordered was excellent. The 'stuffed chicken' and 'mac & cheese with a Twist' were my favorites.

We had to wait about an hour because they don't take reservations, but they took our cell phone number to call us when our table was ready, which made it easy for us to leave and go grab a drink somewhere else. Definitely a fun place to go as a small group, but be prepared to wait.

Great for Brunch

Went this morning and it was not crowded at all... such a nice change in pace to waiting in line. The Bloody Mary was definitely fun, and I absolutely loved the Baked French Toast. This place is definitely worth going to for brunch, especially when you are not in the mood for a wait.
