I used to love this place, the waitress/manager that used to be there all the time was great. I used to go there fairly frequently and always had a good time. The last time I was in was sub par and soured my opinion of ricks, and I really still want to like the place. Our service was amature at best, the server seemed to think I wanted to know everything about his life including where he lived. I ordered the pate and we recieved the end grey oxidized piece as well as a good one, the grey one made it unapatizing for us. The olives are always good, as well as the crepes. The tuna au poivre was good, and the steak we had also. Our biggest complaint was service oriented. Where did the great waitress go??? Not sure if we will try Ricks again, I love the concept of the small slow service its really to bad.

My husband and I used to absolutely love Rick's Cafe, but the past 2 times we've gone in the past 6 months it's been terribly sub-par. The woman who used to wait tables is gone and she must have been the heart and soul of the restaurant because it is, at best, mediocre now. The service is incredibly slow, the food average and my memories dashed. I will not be able to go back as I prefer to keep my memories as they were.....play it again, Sam.

What can I say. My food was cold, but at least I got what I ordered, unlike my friend. My other friend only was able to eat 3 of her mussels, but they did not take them off the bill. The $4 per person corkage fee is ridiculous (so is the 20% gratuity they added for a party of 5) We also waited for 2 hrs for our food. When I complained to the chef/manager, he said "What do you expect me to do!"

I had one of the best dining experiences I have ever had in Chicago at Rick's Cafe. The food was delicious. I love olives, and the marinated olive appetizer keeps me wanting more. The sauteed shrimp and escargot are excellent too, and I could not get enough. The home-made strawberry sorbet cleansed my palate before my main entire, seafood crepes. Definitely delicious and sweet, and a generous portion size. The creme brulee and chocolate mouse were amazing. I have never had chocolate mouse that delicious and amazing before! The owner was very hospitable, and said that his home is ours, and our dinner table would be ours until the end of the night, or when we were ready to leave. No rushing in this romantic cafe. A great date place for Valentine's Day!

we enjoyed a nice meal on a friday night. i ordered the seafood crepe, it was really good but found it too sweet, it needed something salty or neutral to balance the sweetness. the service was also good. the restaurant though lacked ambiance and it was fairly empty and quiet. overall i would say good food but a little pricey for what it's worth.

I've been here twice. If you are looking for a nice, relaxed, & romantic dinner in Chicago, this is the place to go to. The atmosphere is very intimate and the food and service are excellent. I think some of the other readers are obsessing too much over the corkage fee.

A friend took me and my wife here 2 years ago, and we've been regulars ever since... possibly because we've become addicted to the seafood crepes and the best Filet in the city. Like the other review said, 'a true hidden gem.' Half of me wants everyone in the world to know about it, and the other half wants to keep it all to myself.

We love this place. The atmosphere is relaxed and intimate. The service is excellent and the BYOB makes the restaraunt a good value too. We can walk there but often drive and park on one of the nearby cross streets when it is raining or cold. It is right by the Sheridan Red Line "L" stop too. Our daughters are vegetarian and can always find a good selection to order or the chef often makes up something "special" just for them.

Food was good, service was good, but the $4 "service fee," per person, for pouring a glass of wine cancels out the benefit of it being a BYOB restaurant.

Simply amazing.
Had the seafood crepes and they were to die for. Steak au poivre was great, seafood pasta amazing, salmon outstanding and service is out of this world.
Eat here. Make a reservation to do it, and bring a nice bottle of wine.
