Vermilion: User Reviews
We had a party of 10 for dinner on last night (Wednesday). It took 40 minutes for the waiter to take our dinner order despite repeated requests to do so. Drinks arrived randomly - 2 or 3 at a time, then a wait for 15 minutes before the rest of the drinks arrived. We ended up asking the hostess to pour more water, since we could not find our waiter and we had asked the busboy multiple times with no result. Extra plates and glasses were never taken away, we never got extra silverware despite asking the waiter, the busboy, and /or the hostess. When dinner was finally served, one and half hours after being seated, only half the food arrived, and then a 20 minute wait for the rest of the meals. 2 people had order dinner only, no appetizers and ended up without food for 2 hours before being served their dinners. We ask repeatedly for naan, and recieved 1 piece, sliced for a table of ten for $4. We devoured it and had to wait 15-20 minutes before we got more. At this point, a few complimentary servings would have been appropriate. As for dessert, we ordered 8 desserts and 2 coffees. After 20 minutes -- you guessed it -- 4 desserts, no coffee. After 3 hours at the restaurant, we have to leave to catch trains (having missed the earlier one) and we stilll had not received the rest of our orders. No one on the staff ever apologized, offered anything complimentary or cleared the dirty dishes! ( To top it off, the ladies room was short of toilet paper --ick!) Even though the food was good, I would never recommend this place to anyone, ever.

The two best things about Vermilion are the spare no detail service and the drinks. The lychee ginger martini is beyond superb. I have never tried anything quite like it. The cucumber mint martini is also very good. I love authentic Indian food, so this place didn't do it for me because I felt it didn't have enough spices. However, for those who think Indian food is too spicy, this place has to be perfect. The one dish I did love, though, was the jibarito, and for dessert the rabri is great. Overall, I would recommend this restaurant because of the artful way the chef combines latin and Indian food. Also, their service is excelent from beginning to end.

We were the first table in the restaurant on a Friday night. The hostess sat the second table directly next to us - annoying. I had the veal chop, which was supposed to be the #1 dish in Chicago... yeah right! The chop and a HUGE strip of fat along the side of it that I immediately peeled off. Almost 2/3 of the chop was inedible either because of bone or fat and gristle. My girlfriend had the crab dish, which looked like fancy feast cat food and tasted just about as good as it looked.
Bottom line: The restaurant looks nice but has bad food and is terribly overpriced. Do yourselves a favor, spend your money somewhere else.

This place is ovepriced and overated. The food was dry, the flavors were not good. The service was great, but the food was terrible, especially for the prices. I will not be coming here again. The ambiance is horrible, I fell like I was in the middle of a bad 70s movie.

I went to this place for a special event a couple of weeks ago and totally regret it. The acclaimed pork chop was dry as cardboard and arrived about an hour after i ordered it. The drinks were overly sweet and had no trace of alcohol. To top it off, the server was rude and unattentive. I will never go back to this place and don't recommend trying it. I never write reviews like this, but this experience was worth it.....don't go!!!

I have heard a ton of great things about Vermillion. It's an average Indian restaurant, and I expected a lot more flare from it, considering it's a fusion restaurant. The ambiance was mediocre, and the food was good, but not fabulous. I have also heard great things about the mojito, but once again, it was average. The service, however, was fantastic! Friendly servers, who are enthusiastic to serve. Major plus.

My husband and I had dinner last night for Valentine's Day. We had a great dinner - the flavors were amazing and the portions were just big enough to fill us up. The service was a bit slow at first and then harried (my husband commented that he felt like we would be out of there in 15 minutes if the restaurant had its way), but overall it was a great experience. The prix fixe menu and drinks made the dinner a bit pricey - $200+ - so expect to spend a lot. A great special occasion place.

We went here for the first time last week after finding a small review of it in Chicago Magazine. The waitress was excellent---she explained the entire menu to us and answered all of our questions. I am a vegetarian and she explained that just about any dish on the menu could be made meatless for me. Overall the experience was wonderful. Food was high quality and well worth the money. Good atmosphere, quick and nice service. My bf and I will def be going back here again.

I dined at Vermilion, party of four total, in early December of last year. We had a late reservation, 10pm, but the restaurant was at capacity as it was Saturday night. The food was delicious, without question, but there was one problem: it arrived 90 minutes after the waiter took our order. We were never given a reason from our waiter for the delay, and I still can't believe how long we waited. I'll never eat at this restaurant again.
