I'm an Indian and walked into the the buffet at random. The place was empty and deservedly so. The tandoori chicken was cold, lacking any flavor and had the consistency of rubber. the other dishes were only marginally better.
Pass this place up--there's plenty of other good Indian restaurants around...

I was sick for three days after eating this food. It was good - or so I thought - but it must have been filthy. Never again.

Only 2 stars for the Star of India. Buffet was overcooked and had been sitting around all day...come on guys, freshen up! Service was fine, friendly enough waitstaff. Don't expect any interesting atmosphere.

Buffet was cold, the food tasted like it had been sitting around for days. The women's bathroom had 4 glue rat traps in it, plus a 3 inch dead roach on the floor. I will NEVER go here again. I think the "Star" of India is no longer a "Star" anymore. I used to go here and things were clean, fresh, and reasonable. My bill was $50.00 which wasn't worth a cent due to the disgusting conditions in which this restaurant subjects it's customers to. Not only that, I had a stomach ache and was sick the day after eating here.

After reading the reviews about this restaurant my wife and some friends decided to give it a try. We were looking for a cheap place to talk and just catch up on things. Finding a place that was BYOB was a plus. Atmosphere wasn¿t really something we were looking for exactly¿funny word atmosphere. I don't know if it was the can of paint sitting on the floor next to kitchen, the gray tail sticking out of the glue trap in the bathroom, or the eerie illustrated posters of angelic Indian children playing in rice, but atmosphere wasn¿t the word that came to mind. We did have a clear shot looking into the kitchen and the cook preparing food just in case we questioned where the food came from. My wife ordered the Chicken Tikka Massala and I something very similar that I can¿t remember. Our friends opted for the buffet. The food wasn¿t as bad as the ¿atmosphere¿, but no where near the quality I¿ve had. Khyber Pass in Oak Park has the best Chicken Tikka Massala we¿ve ever tasted in the Chicagoland area. The Star of India was cheap¿I¿ll give them that. But so was the experience.

I have to agree with Cynthia Q. This little diamond has gone under the radar for far too long. I go there at least twice a month simply for their buffet. The food is always delicious and the gentleman who seats us is always so polite. It's the best little hole in the wall and I take people there all the time. Already looking forward to my next time.
